The narrowminded attitude from alot of people (like you) who have jack-all experience in cars. The NSX is a hand crafted, hand assembled all-aluminium exotic. It is a half price Ferrari, not an overpriced Porsche! The Type-R edition is even more race prepared. It has extensive chassis reinforcement, aerodynamics enhancements and race specification suspension parts. To get a road car to be fully prepared to race spec, you'd have to spend around 30k ontop of the price of a base model, and here you have an race prepped exotic for 15k more. A real enthusiast can drive this car very hard in the tightest of race tracks or the fastest of roads, and it will fair the best chance of not having failing parts and breaking down compared to the other supercars out there - more expensive or not. A supercar enthusiast can take this £75'000 NSX-R to a track and race a £150'000 Murcielago and would probably stand a good chance of finishing infront of one, and drive back home with relative ease. Opinions? I've just realised I can afford one for less than £20k (sell the s2000 which I love but the NSX should be even better?) Just a thought at the moment but worth thinking about? I've heard they are reliable (esp for a supercar). Anyone had any experiences/

1) an auto, or 2) LHD Edit: or 3) this one: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/carl.wa...nsxforsale.jpg :rolleyes: I think 23-25k is nearer the mark -- NewEra imports reckon on around 23k to import a 91-92 from Japan (they have shorter gearing :cool:) TBH I'd baulk at paying £25k for one -- you can get a £16k-18k Cerbera and a lot of engine rebuilds for that money :D PS: Guess what? Great cars, but things to bear in mind. This is a virtually hand built aluminuim supercar and as such has supercar running costs. Servicing is not that cheap, but provided the car is serviced correctly the car will run reliably. Things to look out for are the clutch and cambelt assemblies, make sure these are tip top. Also the tyres are very pricey, Honda fitted Yokohama's originally, and you'll be lucky to get 8,000 miles (usually 5,000 miles is about right) out of a pair of tyres on the rear. Other brands will probably have been fitted over time, but don't expect much improvement in the tyre wear. Buy these very much on condition, as mileage isn't that important, and get them checked by a specialist, they very expensive to put right if you buy a wrong'un.
To drive they are fantastic, handling great, engine fabulous. Easy to drive too, round town offers no problems, except for the early non-pas versions but even that's no problem really, just takes a bit more effort to park. The cabin is comfortable and well equipped if not especially brilliant to look at, and is ideal for daily use. Overall there isn't much if anything to worry about, just make sure it is has a verifiable full service history and the condition is OK before dishing out the dosh. |
I believe that one of the tyre wear problems is that the suspension is set up for ultimate handling. There are reports that people have gone to zero toe all round with little difference in handling but a big decrease in tyre wear.
The ultimate reference for all things NSX is www.nsxprime.com. They have a much bigger following in the USA than they do in the UK. |
only ever been in one once about 1996, it was amazing as far as i recall, the owner ended up doing about 150mph in a 30mph.......thought i was going to die. it was during 11-30pm saturday night.....was picturing a taxi pulling out of a junction

Drove a modded one last saturday, chap called Dale, owns a silver one, fantastic car, cost of ownership isnt that bad, servicing isnt Porker or Fezza bad but isnt Mondeo cheap either, can't remember how much thou. His has done about 70000 miles, and was mint, really well looked after.
Might have considered one instead of the Elise, but it is too big for my garage, and wouldnt want to leave it on the street for too long. |
i think some geezer up in bournemouth might be selling his dunno but its white and think its a type s, don't know as yet what his asking price is, if any.

Great Supercar's for Subaru money, only thing that would put me off is that I prefer the newer image which doesnt have those awfull frog eyes. Still great cars.

You can get a '97' to '99' Honda NSX with the 3.2 litre block. More power , more torque than the original 3.0 car. It comes with the 6 speed box too. Whatever way you look at it, the NSX is a supercar bargain. Handbuilt handcrafted and hand sewn inside and out. If you feel very ambitious, you can always try and aquire an imported special edition NSX Type S which is lighter and even more track orientated than the standard model. |
owned a 93 auto nsx. used by mum for shopping runs.
the stares and glances are enough to put a smile to my face. dont think its as fast as my type R but it's a std supercar, so no complaints from me. serviced regularly, they run for-ever. electrics might start to play up with age. |

Getting one from Japan is not hard. There a English car finding agents in Japan that can find the right car for you. There is one very famous guy who get in all the mags etc . he is 100% Sure someone will know his name. What about a quick holiday. For less than a grand you could go over and go mad with the choice on offer. Then get an agent to sort out shipping back.
This is how i would do it.... Not many cheap ones around in UK. And maybe they havent been looked after as well. |
The problem is that NSXs are very expensive to buy in Japan.

He deals with only very reputable people over there and to date has had no complaints from anyone whom he has sold cars to.
