Anyone had any look picking up a decent Impreza from a Car auction? Looking at buying a UK turbo for around 8 grand.

Service history is key to any performance car especially Turbo'd and the Scoob is no exception.
Have a look at the SIDC Freqently Asked Questions for info on the different models. Do not be put off by imports/ non-uk cars usually with more power and better spec anyway, insurance is usually more. http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm Do your research before heading off down the auctions and stick to your guns on price, there will always be another one along if the one ytou are bidding on goes for more |
Cheers matey....i was in two minds to get an import, like will they more pricy to fix when they go wrong etc...
|
Auctions are a nightmare in the UK, most people use them as a way to get shot of a troublesome banger - this is not always the case however.
Much better off buying an import car, they have more power and better spec, they are also treated much better in Japan so getting one direct is my recomendation. You could have an STI 1/2 for £8000, this would have about 280bhp so is by far the best buy. You can pick up WRX's for even less money, for example we have one for £6495! Cheers, Anthony. |
UK and JAP Scoobies come out of the same factory - UK ones are just not as well spec'd. Parts will not be any dearer I expect.
Just think with a Jap import, the car will have not seen muddy, salted roads until it gets to this country so the under sides of these cars are usually in far better condition. Anthony. |
a couple of months ago, loads of scoobs went through the auctions, as they were 3 years old, all motorway runners (company cars) highish mileage but bargains, with Full Service History, some still had a few months warranty left on them too, so you could at least get extended warranties on them
|
Do not think imports are more to fix or any particularly unique parts unless perhaps a 22B model.
Often service history cxan be difficult to prove/verify with an import un less you happen to be good at Japanese or know someone who is Cannot think of anything, anyone else??? |
Be careful if you do buy from an auction. You need some sort of comeback if it turns out later on the car is stolen or cloned or anything else that could cost you your car and money.

I think an Import is the way to go. it makes sense really get more for your pennys! Is there any places that do imports that you guys would recomend?

Purchased my import through these people.
http://www.hbtokyo.com/ Suzi, dealt with my request.Very good to me , kept me informed all the way. Answered all questions, promptly. Even called my mobile, when they found a car, to go through all details. Found out she was Aussie, so no lingo problems. there are other sites on here : http://www.donsautopages.co.nz/japaneseimports.htm |
I picked mine up from an auction for 8k. Its current value at the time was 11k - 12k ...
I think i was just in the right place at the right time ... i checked out all the docs ... phone the garages on the service book and ask them about the car. good luck |
Imports are fine, just make sure you have someone nearby that can service them, as main dealers will not touch them.
There are some good independent specialists about, but they are thin on the ground. |
Im diffo gonna get a Import....Just looking into what will need to be done when i get one like underseal and stuff. I wont be to short of mods for the scooby as TSL and ScoobyMania are only a 10 - 15 min drive away :)......Looks like my bank account will take a pounding

As an importer I would have to say yes as the cars have never seen UK roads! (no salt on roads in Japan)
|
