When downloading a movie from Kazaa, I understand it is possible, using some utility or other, to preview the film before it has completed downloading. Useful as loads of the files are fakes, so you can check before downloading too much of a crap fake film. Anyone know how to do this?

Hello

Kazza (Lite) sometimes previews movies, I assume it's because the built in player only supports certain codecs.

You can copy the download.dat file and then rename it with an .avi extension. That sometimes works.

Thanks.

I've never managed to get the in-built player to preview anything - I guess it's a codec issue, as you say.

I'll try the rename suggestion, though probably a copy as I want to do it whilst it's downloading....

Yeah, use avipreview. Sometimes doesn't work, depending on the encoding of the file, but most of the time seems to be ok.

Yeah, doesn't work on all files, but is better than waiting, ta.

suggest copying the dat file to another directory so you are working with a Static ie not still downloading file, then just open in windows media player, no need to rename. Some work some dont, havent looked that close anyway.

dont waste your time on kazza anyway, get emule then head over to sharereactor

It will work with some files but not others. This is due to the movie encoding. Basically you need the complete movie to allow the hash checking at the end. Otherwise it sees the movie incomplete. Stuff like dat files etc work fine, you may see problems which are in DIVX or XVID formats!

The other problem with kazza is you get loads of butt monkeys posting up movies under the wrong names! it is a pain!

You best bet is to kiss kazza goodbye and use the newsgroups or something a bit easier to use is http://www.suprnova.org this is good for music/movies/games and apps. Very easy to use, just download the bitorrent and then click on the file that you want. Due to the site being popular it does sometimes go down but your downloads dont get effected. Also it can resume the download if you switch the pc off or loss your network connection.

Just check now and their website is down... keep checking it! its worth using!!
