Went to start the car last night and it turned over 4 or 5 times before it sparked up, would sort of remind you on a dodgy battery but the battery is fine, it has done this a couple of times now in the past couple of weeks, any ideas or has anyone had the same sort of problems????

By the way it's a V5 STi....

My Legacy GTB twin turbo is similar -seems like a low battery, although freshly charged.

It's better when the engine's hot - which makes me think that it's got the wrong grade of oil in it (too thick at low temps) - however it was last done by Subaru, with 10W stuff, so should be fine. I'll see if it's different when I change it for Castrol RS next month.

Could be battery, starter,or dodgy earth's jap cars are known for crap earthing. Try adding a few more in the engine bay. Lots of people have done this run a search.

I found this happened on our MY99 B4. Adding extra earthing wires seemed to sort this out, I know there's a link in the project forum or if you look at Jeff Tsai's B4 RSK site it used to have detailed pictures and diagrams of how to do it!

Hope this helps

My UK98 has had a starting problem like this for the past year or so. Battery and all sensors check out o.k on a select monitor..... I now just live with it. Car has never failed to start but once or twice a month it will crank over and not fire up.

Anyone with suggestions ?????

Steve
