all of a sudden i can't burn my mp3 downloads to cd. when i play them on my cd player it finds it difficult to find tracks and when it does play them they keep jumping. first thought it was cheap cdr`s but i`ve baought some branded one and there just the same.
i`m using adaptec

How old is the CD player?

I used to have a 5 year old Alpine CD tuner in my car that initially would play CD-R's OK, but over a period of weeks got progressively worse until it wouldn't play them at all. Well it would play them eventually but you could hear the head repeatively searching for the start of the track. It still played 'originals' OK however.

what speed are you writing at ?- maybe turn it down a bit

FASTER MIKE!! 26 May 2003 10:48 PM

tried it in 3 players and the best on is my multichanger in the car which is about 3-4 years old, but it plays other burnt cds.
i`ll give it another go a slower speed.
could the crap cds have anything to do with it?

crap cds are crap, :D really, Ive had cd writers reject them let alone burn on them. My job involves working with mpeg music, we use top notch CDs, anything branded should be ok though. I usually burn with the limits of the drive, ie 6X on an 8X drive etc

FASTER MIKE!! 27 May 2003 10:38 PM

tried recording at the speed less than max and also at max to no avail  . even tried on nero and no luck, though that could be down to not knowing how to use the program :D . i down loaded the mp3`s off kazza is there some sort of protection on the files stopping me from burning them? or am i being parnoid  if there is what do i need to do?

cheers mike still confused

FASTER MIKE!! 27 May 2003 10:40 PM

mike see if someone can give you a different make cd to try...

i chucked loads out at work coz i couldn't rely on them.
now i use traxdata or eperformance cds.

the ones from woolworths are ok too 22 cds for 9.99

its just trial and error, i'm afraid.

branded cds will usually be better than unbranded though

What OS do you have on your PC? The utility in Windows XP seems to be pretty stable. Open Explorer and then the directory where your MP3's are. Right click on the track you want to burn to CD and click on 'Copy to audio CD' (with a blank CD already in the tray, of course)

I had exactly the same problems as you but this way seems to work OK.

Cheers
