Ok, so does anyone know why is a Scooby called a Scooby?

RB5Jezza 23 May 2003 12:17 PM

Su ba ru............Scooby do

Ciaran 23 May 2003 12:18 PM

its short for scooby doo that sounds like subaru obviously!!

dhayzen 23 May 2003 12:22 PM

I had kind of thought that, but wasn't 100% sure. Thought there might be some other link to Scooby Doo other than just sounds like.

You're thinking about it too hard m8 :D :p

BB

wideboyuk 23 May 2003 12:29 PM

Yeh I believe Shaggy had one ;)

chrisp 23 May 2003 12:31 PM

Yep the image would be better if it wasnt for them pesky kids ;)

Pete Croney 23 May 2003 01:00 PM

Does anyone know where the term was first "publically" used?

A set of clear side indicators to the first correct answer :D

Pete Croney 23 May 2003 01:03 PM

Clarification...

the term Scooby or Scooby Doo being used to refer to a Subaru :)

dhayzen 23 May 2003 01:05 PM

Thanks folks, that's good enough for me.

I had someone ask me the otherday and said it related to Scooby Doo, but after saying it I thought... is that really the real reason... I guess it is. :D

Cool !

banshi 23 May 2003 01:08 PM

publicly is I believe the correct use ;)

So do I get a prize for spotting the deliberate mistake Pete :D

ChrisB 23 May 2003 01:09 PM

Carweek or Performance Car Pete? Richard Meaden maybe?

pbee 23 May 2003 01:22 PM

scooby doo was orginally used as rhyming slang for a xr2, and i guess as a lot of scooby owners previously had xr2's (scoobydoos) it has probably carried on.

just a thought :-), not trying to make any connections between impreza's and xr2's in any way.

Pete Croney 23 May 2003 01:32 PM

Thanks Banshi ;)

Nope, not PC or Carweek.

chrisp 23 May 2003 01:46 PM

used in a film to refer to a subaru saleman as "he sells scooby doos" but I cant remember the film

Dracoro 23 May 2003 01:50 PM

also, 'scooby dooby doo' fit's the lyrics of every song ever made!

try it! if you're unsure of the lyrics, just sing 'scooby dooby doo' in the same style as the song and you're away!

Pete Croney 23 May 2003 02:03 PM

Chris

I need the tittle and the year :D

wideboyuk 23 May 2003 02:04 PM

Surely you mean title ;)

Pete Croney 23 May 2003 02:05 PM

Yes Wideboy, I do ;)

Brain functions are off line today ;);)

Brendan Hughes 23 May 2003 02:13 PM

Not fair. I'm sure Dave T-S has answered this two or three times already, and scoob indicators won't fit on his VX220 :p

By the way, by "publically", do you mean "in a pub"?

dhayzen 23 May 2003 02:15 PM

Ok so as Scooby has been explained, can any of you put me in the picture of a few other alias's that are used often but not 100% sure of there meaning...

Terzo - Turbo?
DBM

Go on, shoot me down in flames for not knowing these  :D

Pete Croney 23 May 2003 02:16 PM

Brendan

Only cos I once told him the answer ;)

Nick1 23 May 2003 02:19 PM

Crocodile Dundee II in 1988 :D

Gedi 23 May 2003 02:27 PM

yep, I remember when XR2's where called scoobys. Well before the time of the Impreza

hail-hail 23 May 2003 02:33 PM

Terzo - limited UK model, have a look in members gallery, you'll find a few.
DBM = Dark Blue Mica/Deep Blue Mica i.e. the colour of the car.

hail-hail 23 May 2003 02:35 PM

dhayzen 23 May 2003 02:45 PM

Heh, makes sense once you know doesn't it ;)

Thanks for info... I will now know what to say in the "Was it you?" section when I see a DBM or Terzo.. Cheers!

Nice pics of the Terzo by the way :D

SPEN555 23 May 2003 02:50 PM

So where did the term 'Jap Crap' come from?

Was it the blue oval boys that started that?

Damian.
