Just thought i'd share my car I had when I was just 18. :)
Being 21 now, i'm obviously more mature to think about doing this to a car again :) Spent a fortune on it when I had it, turned into the following from standard. Sold it to a mate 2 years ago, and now he can't afford it anymore, so he's offering it up for sale - i might buy it ;) oh and yes, that is an inter-cooler, feeding a T25 roller bearing turbo meant for an upgrade to a 300ZX http://www.thefullboost.co.uk/graphi...nails/gtt6.jpg http://www.thefullboost.co.uk/graphi...nails/gtt7.jpg http://www.thefullboost.co.uk/graphi...nails/gtt8.jpg http://www.thefullboost.co.uk/graphi...nails/gtt3.jpg Engine 1397cc 4cylinder 8v push rod engine T25 Roller bearing Turbo Low compression pistons Wire ring liners Lightened & balanced bottom end (37% lighter flywheel) Big valve and ported and gas flowed head package (43% up) Comprising flowed inlet & exhaust manifolds Port-Formance Specification cam shaft Re-jetted Carburettor & Elbow Up-rated clutch Re-worked oil & water pump Re-worked oil & water galleries New pistons & liners Remote oil filter (one litre capacity) 30% bigger radiator Fabricated Massive Intercooler Designed by Port-Formance Front cross member removed & up-rated with strut brace & tie bars (triangulated for strength) Ram air, air filter box 2" fabricated boost hoses Plastic coated in blue 2¼" stainless exhaust Bailey Piston Dump valve Magnicore competition leads 8.5mm NGK spark plugs Fabricated Starter Motor heat shield Cam sprocket Machined combustion chambers Valve stems and oil seals Turbo housing Race actuator Transmission Up-rated twin clutch Suspension Momo suspension, -40mm Strut Brace(s) - triangulated (see yellow bars) Brakes Rally Design 284mm crossed drilled disks, with fast road Kevlar pads Rear standard with green stuff pads Body Work Open front grill, with fabricated polished steel Intercooler wind deflectors Spot light's removed RAM air intake covered with mesh grill, and front number plate located where spots used to be Standard rear roof spoiler Evo 6 bonnet vent, smoothed 15" TSW evo R's with yokohama 195,50,15 A539s Red centre caps Interior Cobra Daytona's and subframes Red Race Alcantra Sparco Steering wheel 30mm Momo Boss Pod mounted boost gauge on dash White lockwood coloured dials [Edited by rik1471 - 5/20/2003 6:15:48 PM] [Edited by rik1471 - 5/20/2003 6:17:27 PM] [Edited by rik1471 - 5/20/2003 6:20:16 PM] |
Buy it now :)
It looks ace :) |
It's still the fastest car i've ever driven :)
I might buy it as a weekend car, it's too on the limit for an everyday car. |
Feel free to bring it in my direction and show me what it can do :D
I've only ever been out in one mildly tuned "5" and it was fappin awsome:D |
Like it, how did you insure it !
What was the power output ? |
Very nice mate, Im in the middle of doing the same to a 5 turbo I have sitting in my garage now. Turning it into a rally / sprint car, but am also thinking about preping it for the Toyo Tyres Production car championship.
|
Never had it rolling roaded, but expect a realistic (not an owners guestemate you see in max power) of about 200-220 bhp.
In a car this light it absolutely rocketed in 2-3 & 4th gear. |
Ive just bought a 5 while my scoobs off the road. All i can say is ive never grinned so much in all my life. Its a right hoot to drive. Im unsure on the exact spec of it but am rooting through thousands of poundsworth of paper work with it to find out. Bloke i bought it off didnt no what he had i dont think.
Had a play with my m8s UK fully de-catted scoob and the look on his face when i was still with him was one ill never forget lol. Think im going to keep it for a good while though. In the wet its useless putting your foot down as all it does is spin lol. Go for it m8 im glad i did. |
Great little pocket-rocket cars!!
I had one going back quite a few years ago and the missus complained of whip lash when I changed gear and hoofed it. It was supposed to of been near on 200bhp and felt like it as well. Nath |
I used to have a GTT too, great little pocket rocket!
Even now, despite having around 300BHP I'd always be wary of racing a 5 cos they can be seriously rapid. http://www.gtturbo.co.uk/menu.htm <----my old site |
They are just great little cars to throw around, and as mentioned, because they are so light and fairly easy to get to 170(ish)bhp, they have a good power to weight ratio. I've owned 8 GTT's in the past 5 years, just cant stop buying the buggers! I even had 3 at one point!!!
|
Aaaiiii you can't help loving the little blighters ;)
|
How d'ya post pics on the board chaps ?
|
Yupyup, seriously rapid if done right, and not unreliable if done RIGHT too.
God a cossie now, but my last one was jus over 200bhp@Flywheel at 22psi (proven on RR, a v.low reading one at that) and wouldve been more with bigger turbo (smallsih laggless exhaust housing on the T25 it had restricted it), and that with the light weight and low gearing is crazy fast. Easily destroy stg1 cossies and modded classic shape WRX scoobies. Very easy. And tho my car is no doubt faster, nothing ive ever been in (and ive been in a lot) has ever came close to how scary, heart going 200bpm, shat your pants, that GTT was when u giving it some, it was viscous n barely controlable, wheelspin in 4th at over 100mph if drop down from 5th. A GENUINLEY 200+bhp one of these has to be experienced to be belived, trust me. Jus a shame there so many people around with very little mods who belive they got 170/180/190/200+ which makes people think they not as fast as they really are (for the supposed power), and same with the reliability, sooo many not set up or badly maintained that they seem unreliable to a lot of people. They need regualr looking after, not jus a car you can jus leave alone barring oil changes. As long as all the bits r where they should be, Fueling checks on RR will stop em doin a piston, re-torquing the head bolts will stop the h.g. going (easy DIY), and resetting rocker arm clearances will make even the tappyest of reno5 top ends go quiet as a mouse (another easy DIY). I love em. One day when i got enough spare cash to modd a second car at same time as cossie/skyline il do another, maybe in a base model/campus body, lol. I got 3/4 of the bits to build another GTT in my garage actually. The car at the top of the post, pretty awesome, one thing tho- looking at the tech spec, jus says re-jetted carb? The std car is very restrictive (the airway thru std one is VERY small compared to all other pipes the air has to flow thru, its a big restriction. One of the best mods you can do is get a VERY bored out carb (different companies bore them out different amounts, i found in the end someone who would do it loads, the choke flap had to be removed, but was a small price to pay, belive me). My brother was always a big fan of Renault Turbo cars.
Until recently he had a rare 11 Turbo, with brand new Renault factory engine, hybrid turbo etc - but it wasn't getting any use as he had 2 other cars - he sold it for £250 (fool!!!) Anyway - his pug rally car has got to the point where its going to be off the road for a while (strip back to shell for more seem welding and cage etc) - so - hes back in the renault fold again :D He has just managed to purchase a H plate 5 Turbo in white, 62,000 genuine miles, full history, 2 owners from new and best of all its been dry stored for the last 3 years - the car is mint. I get to have a play this weekend. FWD turbo hatches sure are fun, my wife still has a punto GT turbo - a great way of keeping the tyre industry in business LOL. |
Nice, very nice. I'd expect some serious engine bay melting having no heatshield over a turbo that big ;) Get yerself a lobster back for the carb too!! I'll post pics of my old beast when I get home. Sold my one to my m8 and had a go in it after owning my scoob for almost a year and I must say it feels sooo much like a gokart in comparison. The steering weighs a ton, the clutch needs a bloody elephant to press down and the gears feel like ya stirring some old pudding mix, but sod all that they're great fun cars to drive.

v nice, mate had one once damn quick at 0 - 80, felt faster than anything else i'd ever been in but after 80mph it just seemed to run out of go, was odd. I can't remember where but in a non max power mag, a rolling road session gave people estimating 150bhp 230 bhp readings they were all very shocked. But with intercoolers fitted and steel headgaskets running high pressures they can give silly output quite reliably. :), my question is are there any good ones still out there??

The carb is a seriously bored out piece from Port-formance. This spec is slightly out-dated.
It's true that the carb is the restriction, my next mod I had lined up was full Cosworth injection system, totally de-restricting flow allowing for some SERIOUS power. I guess we only live once. Think i'll be giving my mate a call ;) |
igratton my mate sold a 11 turbo last year! for £100!!!
|
i always wanted a 5 turbo.
there is 1 down the road from me, parked off the main road, its had a spray job in that 7 different colour paint, it looks the dogs :) |
