On my way home from work tonight I stoped off for some grub and when I started the car back up there was a deep rumbling sound comming from the engine. When the engine idled it was fine but when I reved and let off the sound came back until the engine found its idle speed again. Is this something to worry about(ie the dreded Knock problem we here so much about) or is this something else?
The car is a 2L Sport with 30K on the clock and is due for a service now. (Will be booking in asap anyway) |
Drove the car a short distance this moring and all seemed fine untill I pulled up outside my house when it did it again, but only for a very short time and then when I reved again it did it once more.
Any ideas greatly received as I use the car a lot and dont really want it to go bang on me! |
What year sport is it?

its an MY00 bought new in july 2001.
I would take it to the local dealer to have a listen, but there isn't one round here any more :( |
I would have thought that if it were the likes of the big end then you would have got knocking all the time rather than just through reving?
I know that some of the MY99/00 turbos suffered from vibrating brake lines against the bulkhead, normally around the 2.5-4.5k in the rev range..... I think also that if it were serious you would be able to go to any garage and a mechanic would be able to tell you what was up? Tony:D |
Thanks mate - might have a trip to one now before work.
