Hi All,
Got a couple of spare quiet fans sitting about that I'm going to fit to my PC. These are three wire jobs with the special connector. Now, I don't have any spare power points on the mobo for these so I was going to wire them up using a molex connector. Problem is, I can't remember what wire is which. So can someone point me to the decode of the four wires on a molex connector (thing you plug into hard drive for power) and also a decode of what the white wire on a three wire fan is for. I faintly remember something about speed control/speed sensing but I can't remember. Basically, I'm planning on hooking the black (-) and the red (+) wire up to the molex to get some air moving around this case. Cheers Ian |
Hi Ian
always try to help a fellow Ian 4 wire power connector red = +5v black = gnd black = gnd yellow = +12v 3 wire fan connector red = +12v white = for speed sensor black = gnd A lot of fans will not work on 5 volts as it isn't enough to power the electronics inside them, those that do will run slower and quieter hth Ian (lippy) |
Thanks Ian. Perfect, just what I needed.
Cheers Ian |
