I was channel hopping the other night and was so bored that I strayed across something on Challenge TV - Takeshi's Castle.

It's a cross between it's a knockout and a Mario video game!

PMSL, I nearly wet myself :D

Best watched with a few mates and beer....

PS it could just be me that finds it funny though as I'm peculiar ;)

skiddus_markus 16 May 2003 09:15 PM

I can watch it for 10 minutes or so.The games they play loosen a few teeth.

Top top entertainment!

Especially 'High Rollers'. Ouch!

Floyd 17 May 2003 08:50 PM

The game with the doors that the contestants have to run into, WTF, they're going to break there necks!

Oh and the tricycle race, quite possibly the funniest thing I've seen all year.

Takeshi's castle rocks.
the best thing about it is nobody EVER wins! Its just 1/2 an hour of sadism and mud then they all get mercilessly pi9cked off!
Funny as fook!

Takeshi's castle totally rocks! Last week the poor feckers were dressed as blueberries. Only problem is I can only watch for about 5 mins before I get nauseous listening to Craig Charles :(

FYI this is same Takeshi as Takeshi Kitano, director and star of many excellent ultra-violent yakuza movies including "Brother" and "Violent Cop"

The bridge ball game is class :D

Quality Viewing

Yeah been watching that for some time now, its hilarious!! :D
I find it really funny also that the Japanese/Chinese can smash their teeth out, bruise their ribs and get pummelled and STILL have a massive grin and be cheery lmao... Extroadinary.

Stealth 20 May 2003 08:35 AM

This is quite possibly one of the funniest shows on TV :D

Floyd 20 May 2003 01:06 PM

They must have an Ambulance permanently there or maybe a triarge (sp?) tent ;)

I bet the local hospital has an A&E dept for normal patients and a Takeshi dept for gaming 'customers', with specialist treatment for shins, ribs and teeth LOL

Hey, new to the forums and I just wanted to give a bit of info on this show (huge Keshi Head here!):norty:

They had 110 games in all, between 95 to 140 contestants in each episode (and 1,000 in the beach finale) and many regular-special and special-special episodes out of the 133 episodes of the original run. They had a special revival episode in 2005 where Tani (he's called Tani in Japan, not "General Lee" :Whatever_)brought a team of 10 Japanese celebrities to a studio to participate in Skipping Stones and Bridge Ball. The original run was from May 2, 1986 to October 19th 1990. The last four episodes were very spaced-out because they intended to come back with a special episode once every half a year or so, but sadly they didn't :( When they were producing the final episode, they didn't know it would be that, but in a way it fits because Tani had 1,000 competitors in his army! Throughout the years during and after the show, many remakes have been made (Germany, Taiwan, USA ad many more), but most of them lost the plot fairly quickly, or never had it in the first place. More recently, in the Summer of 2014, Thailand took a shot at remaking the series. This was the most faithful remake to do date, but unfortunately didn't last too long, seeing a cancellation in May of last year. The show started off strong, but was forced to change location and then lost their budget, lost heart and lost the format altogether:freak3: By the 80th episode, it was begging to be put out of it's misery (and by then it was known by the staff). And they removed all the episodes they uploaded to Youtube in early October, which completely cut us off from it :wall: There is talk of this version returning, which is obviously great, but not being able to watch it will put a large damper on it... Four weeks ago Keshi Land had a very exciting week. TWO new versions were created in Indonesia and Vietnam (we'd known about Indonesia, but Vietnam was only announced three days before!) and we got an exciting week of TC. Both versions came with some flaws though: TCIndonesia plays this circus music on a five-second loop, and more importantly uses the EXACT SAME GAMES EVERY SINGLE TIME. This took so much out of it for me (especially when they have at three more games up and ready to go), even though the spirit of the original was captured well and the games themselves were very similar. TCVietnam is mainly just a drama which uses five TC games within it. Only two main games that change, with Slippery Wall, Final Fall and Show Down every week :( They, on the other hand, don't even have the right spirit and certainly enough game slots per episode. Also, most of the games are poorly-made, lack that outdoorsy feeling and have the original audio totally muted with hardly anything to listen to at all. So that one needs some work :lol1: They did do one interesting idea of upgrading the Show Down to boats, and that's about as good as the regular one anyway! We need to see more stuff like that though and it'd be a good remake.

:RantOff:

Now onto Challenge! They bought the original Japanese series in 2002 and it went on until New Years Day 2004. This cut the original hour-long show into thirty-minute episodes (all scrambled out of their original airing-order), voiced-over by Craig Charles. At the end of the game they always added "Craig's Ridiculous Replay", where Craig would recap his favorite part of the segement. This was how the UK got involved in TC.

Speaking of the Birtish version, it's time for common misconceptions...:

First of all, no one ever got seriously injured, however much Craig wanted it to be true!! When he says that they removed the Gauntlet for all the injuries it caused, this was made-up. In fact, they never removed it, as it was played up until the final original episode, but because of Challenge buying the later episodes first (thinking it was going to only be a one-off series, not a four-series long thing) it just looked like that!

Also there were eight winners (including the final one where Tani himself shot Takeshi's sensor), which is probably the most notorious misconception in the history of the planet that no one ever won :p Craig lived up to his reputation and missed the first few times there were wins that he saw though :lol1:

Also, many people competed in tons of episodes. For example, a businessman competed in over 40 of them!

And dare I even mention Rebooted?..

No :norty:

Seeya!

I am not quite certain. I find it possible. I appreciate your response.
