Talking to a friend about the guy who was jailed for doing 156 MPH on the A90. It turns out he has got an NIP for the same road works which featured on the TV News (ITV). However from what I could see on the TV, the 40 MPH speed limit sign itself was illegal. I.e it was not lit on a lit road (and within 50 yards of a lamp post). However it was impossible to be sure that there wasn't a previous one which was lit. If anyone could check the site out for me, I'd be grateful. It's a long drive on spec to take a photo. If the road is a "principal route" (has green direction signs; I'm assuming it has) or is a "trunk" (marked "T" on maps) route and the road is lit, both (left & right) the *first* speed limit signs must be lit at least when the street lights are on and either of the signs is within 50 yds. of a lamp post.

TIA

I'm heading up the length of the A90 in approximately 2hrs 20mins, camera ran out of batteries earlier on in the week though. North or southbound? Can't ever remember either sign being 'lit'.

That was quick! Sorry, Carl I didn't ask.

(Edited to add) Also, Carl, at least one of them has to be within 50 yds. of a lamp post to be rquired to be lit.

Ok, had a sleep so here's the craic, Northbound first. The first 40 sign is not in a lit area, is not lit itself and is not within 50 yards of a lamp. Southbound is the same although some of the street lamps closest to the sign have been switched off, probably more to do with the roadworks i'd imagine. Road is a principal route btw.

Thanks v. much, Carl. I've had an e-mail; it was northbound. :-( It was probably southbound on the TV.
