Hi All,

Went to view a Sierra 4X4 Cosworth yesterday and want to go for it but I am unsure as to the value of the car and don't want to take a huge hit on it due to the fact I only keep my cars about 6 months top.

It is a 90 on a H plate, Moonstone Blue with full Leather. Has a Scorpian all the way through and really is mint.

Mileage is 61k with a FFSH. ALL old MOT's and just had a new clutch, cambelt and radiator.

It is 6.5k and the guy won't budge one bit. What do u lot reckon ?

Fair price - get it inspected though - majority of cossies are BAD now..

M8TT J 15 May 2003 10:17 AM

I have gone through it with a fine tooth comb...spent over 2 hours on it and it is perfect....nothing at all wrong with it.

Super then - I had a G plate 2wd @ 320bhp a while back, bought it for £8k, sold it for £7.5k

I assume yours is pretty standard apart from the zorst?

MarkCSC 15 May 2003 10:53 AM

Parkers have the book price at £5900

majority of cossies are BAD now..
Errr - why do you say that? You will find that the majority owned by people in the RSOC are in extremely good nick. If you go to RSOC National Day - you will find 1000's of cossies, all in excellent condition!

I think that is a very fair price for a 4 x 4 Sapph. Is it registered with the RSOC? Check all the panels and see if they are date-stamped and also all seams.

Patt@firstime 15 May 2003 11:44 AM

Hi Lynne,

Long time no speak. Can you make a link to the RSOC for sale section clicky for me as cant find it myself

Cheers Matt :)

Paulo P 15 May 2003 11:47 AM

Where was the car bought from? I guess you are localish to me. Do you know the previous owners?

Paul

j_p_h 15 May 2003 02:18 PM

Sounds an excellent price. I sold my mercury grey 2wd f plate a while back for bang on 5 grand.

Johnny50 15 May 2003 02:33 PM

Yep. Seems a fair old price.

I just sold my Moonstone F plate 2wd Saff a fortnight ago for 5k.

you've picked the best colour too!! IMHO.

Johnny

Redkop 15 May 2003 02:37 PM

Matt - what part of For Sale do you want? There are loads of sub-sections?

Merc_Cosworth 15 May 2003 03:18 PM

Check the bootfloor, rear arches, rear arches chassis rails and so on for rust.

Check the bumpstrips and door seals for condition - both impossible to get hold of.

Usual turbo car stuff for the engine

Check it ain't stolen, crashed, etc - don't rely on HPI as the ultimate say-so on this though.

M8TT J 15 May 2003 03:56 PM

Thanks for all the replies....think I will go for it.

Car was bought from leeds. RS Owners club registered since new and has had no paint work or body work.

Paulo P 15 May 2003 03:58 PM

Where in bucks are you?

M8TT J 15 May 2003 05:05 PM

High Wycombe mate....just down the road from you in Marlow

jameswrx 15 May 2003 05:13 PM

Nice one, sounds good.

I had a moonstone 4x4, loved it:D

p.s. don't want a K&N panel filter for it do you? ;)

M8TT J 15 May 2003 05:15 PM

When I get it I will mail you buddy...as I am after some go faster goodies

met 15 May 2003 10:26 PM

sounds good mate ive seen a few at that price too, a guy down the road to me is selling a bog standard stored 4x4 for 8500 with 55k on the clock from new, apparently its mint, def the to end of the market though, so yours with 69k at 6500 seems to make very good sense. good luck mate,

Lynne,

He's got a point. Most saffs are rusty. It's just a case of how much and where.

Common place to start looking is the rear chassis rails. Get it up in the air, and look where the chassis rail levels out. This is a common water trap, and rust will start here. Also check the rear spring mounts. It's the same in this area.

The arches may not be too bad, but check the front jacking points, as they are far enough away from the inevitable oil spillage around the front of the car.

Also check the sills. This is one of Ford's most stupid designs, especially as the water drains don't actually drain very well. They tend to rot all the way down, so make sure you have a good look.

Also check around the transmission tunnel inside the car. If the car's split a heater matrix at any point, rest assured the rust will have started.

If all else fails, get the guy to take you on a test drive to SCC in St Albans (where I work), slip Rob a bit of cash, and he'll throw the car in the air and we'll give it a good look over....

M8TT J 16 May 2003 09:14 AM

Thanks guys, checked under the car and there is no rust on it.....in the end I went for it and paid full whack.

Pick it up Monday and will stick a pic up when I get it.

Thanks for all your help. Without the advice I might have got a nightmere one.

Cheers Matt

Is a nice straight car....bought by this guy...had it a little while and has loads of nice cars, M3's etc.
