Quick little car!

Bit girly, but they are very quick of the mark as standard, a friend has one with induction kit and zorst and will race anything! Doesnt always win but.......

Seriously, they are quick, bits seem to be easy to get, and that roof is a brilliant compromise.

There are two variations. The VXi and SiR. 1500cc and 1600cc respectively.
Most common colours are red, black and silver but IIRC, alloys wern't standard on them.
I think 170bhp is easily achievable from the SiR.

I can get you a nice 92-93 model for about £4K if you want to drop me an e-mail.

if you can, go for the crx vti 92> as this is the uk version with 160bhp, it's as good as the japanese imports but with a lower insurance premium, and a proper uk dials....etc etc

Used to have a 1.6VTI electric roof. Not from personal experience, but the electic roof can be expensive to repair and it makes the car heavier which will be noticed during standstill starts (I guess 0-60 in mid 8s). With the roof off, the chassis is noticably weaker and you can feel it flex. To enjoy the car, drive with the roof on.

Watch out for leaks due to aging rubber seals on the roof, you can bet that 9 out of 10 will leak. Not a major problem, get all the rubber seals replaced, probably cost about 200-250 quid.

Besides that, its a honda civic at heart and it handles well and is relliable. In hindsight, would have preferred a toyota MR2.

I had a 1600 Vti Del sol a few years ago - fantastic twin cam vtec engine that revs like nothing else I'd ever driven. I did have a problem with the roof that meant that it wouldn't close up and it took a Honda dealership bod that (supposedly) knew these cars 6 hours to fix - not sure what was wrong but I think the guy just took it to bits and rebuilt it with the correct alignment etc as if this is out then some sensors can stop the roof from attempting to close.
Good fun car.
