My Sony DVD player also does not play CD/DVD R/RW. I play mine through Sony Playstation - work fine.

Niel what model you got mate ??

DJ Dunk 14 May 2003 12:07 PM

My Sony DVD (DVP-S325 or something) would only play CD-RW's, not CD-R's.

pcdude 14 May 2003 12:20 PM

dj , were they VCD CDRW or SVCD CDRW ?

cheers Paul

DJ Dunk 14 May 2003 12:32 PM

VCD's on CD-RW. That model doesn't play SVCD's.

Check out here for what media and formats the player plays. As DJ Dunk says, it looks like it only plays CDRWs and not CDR's. :)

Same issue as DJ Dunk here - only use RW's now.

Added to say - my DVD is a high end sony. My mate's £100 unit from Asda works ok with CD-R's.

lol matt yeah i got a same mate with a asda £99 all cds work onhis , very annyoing ,,,, my sony was 3 times that price

update
I tried a CDR-re-write cd at 2x speed burn speed and it worked on the sony dvd in PBC mode ,,,,,,,, :)

i take it you have made sure that the vcd are 2.0 compliant. both the video stream and the audio stream have to be encoded a particular way before they are written i.e Pal or NTSC and audio has to written at 44100 Khz.

cheers

got myself a tescos special lol .... £49.99 plays mp3,s the lot :) so much for a £300 sony :(

you'll find most of the supermarket dvd players will play most formats, and will be hackable to play other regions as they are cheapily built players from various parts of the far-east.

Picture and sound quality on some may not be up to the standards of mainstream manufacturers but for £50-£80 with the years warranty from the s/m you cant lose .
