Garelochhead Coaches Rally 2003

Spectator Information

Due to forestry logging operations in the area up until the day of the rally, spectator-viewing areas are very limited; in addition there is NO PARKING in Glenbranter Village. For stages 2, 4 + 5, please park on the unclassified road between Strachur and Glenbranter from A815, enter via Glenbtanter – Keep cars to the right hand side of the road (riverside). All spectator accesses will be well signposted from the road.

SS1 ARDGARTEN 10:50
Car parking is at the Rest and Be Thankful on the junction of A83 and B828 signposted Lochgoilhead, walk for 0.3 miles along B828 to access road into the stage. Follow the green arrows and walk behind the green and white tape.

SS2 GLENDARUEL 11:30
There are 2 viewing options here:

For Glenbranter viewing area, walk through Glenbranter village (following the green arrows marked SS2) to stage start. Do not walk through control area – walk along the path to the left, around the start and then up the verge on the left of the road to the hairpin. Do not walk on the stage and stay behind the green and white tape once you reach the junction.

For the Glendaruel viewing area, take A886 from Strachur heading southwest for approx. 9 miles to Garvie Farm. Park off road (with all wheels off the road) and follow the path from Garvie Farm uphill for approx 1.5 miles to junction.

SS3 COIRE EALT 13:00
For viewing areas at the start of the stage, follow the A815 south from Glenbranter and take a left at Whistlefield onto the road for Ardentinny. After a short distance turn left onto the forest road then either turn left for the hairpin at junction 2, or go straight on for the faster section further into the stage. Park well back from the junction and walk the rest of the way.

For viewing at the final hairpin, park at A815 just south of Invernoaden (very limited parking – park on verges or in lay-bys with all wheels off the road) Walk into the stage via finish, but do not walk on the road. Stay on verges and under the tree line to hairpin at last junction.

SS4 BEINN LAGAN 113:19
There is NO spectator access at stage start

The only access (with very limited parking) is off the A815 south of Glenbranter; turn off the main road at Invernoaden, then left onto forest road. Park well clear of the junction. This is a good viewing spot for those on foot having parked on the road at Glenbranter. There is a choice of viewing areas here.

SS5 GLENSHELLISH 14:39
Both of the viewing areas on this stage are easily accessible on foot from Glenbranter. For the first area, turn right before Glenshellish Farm and follow the road to a 90 left.

For the second viewing point, follow access route for SS2 Glenbranter viewing area. This time the junction is run as part of a straight followed by a 45 left uphill. Marshals will show you to the safe viewing area once you reach the junction.

SS6 GLENCROE 15:48
The spectator area for this stage is the same as SS1, only difference is this time the access road is also the start of the stage, so no walking on the road, stay behind the green and white tape and watch out for rally traffic approaching from behind.

Strathclyde Police will be keeping a close watch on the whole rally route. Therefore I must urge you to obey ALL speed limits and any other restrictions you may encounter. Any vehicle found to be parked inappropriately, WILL be removed and the owner subject to a large fine.

The organisers and sponsors of the Garelochhead Coaches Rally want you to enjoy our rally and hope you will return again in future years.

All times are approximate, and you should allow plenty of time to park and to get into position.

GM 16 May 2003 10:53 PM

The Rest and Be Thankful isn't being used - the road is in too poor a condition. There is parking at the top of the Rest which gives access to stage 1 Ardgarten - you need to walk a few hundred yards down the B road to get to the forest road and then another few hundred yards to get to the stage. This is also the start of stage 6 Glen Croe.

Have a good day and stay safe (especially on 1 and 6 cos I'm stage commander ;))

Dougster 16 May 2003 11:14 PM

Can anyone going by my way pick me up otherwise no rally for The Dougster as my car 'aint ready.

Just in from work and going to pub. Will check when I get home.
