Why? You'd still have to have the ignition turned on, which would require the key...

Does look pretty flash

I see carrot .... i thought you meant like a push start button instead of a key  Might look good, but surely aint worth the hassle??? |
hi gang
used to have one on my morris 1000 traveller but you pulled it instead of pushing come to think about it i used to push that morris 1000 quite often!!! andy |

You need to get into the wiring harness and bridge the 'start' switch in the ignition barrel. That way it just works as an alternative to turning the key all of the way. I was going to do it on my GT4 but didn't bother and couldn't be ar5ed on my Scoob.
As for lighting it up, I assume you mean after ignition on but goes off when you start it? If so you need to see if there is a feed behind the dash that does that, however I can't see the need for one so I doubt there will be one there. To do anything more complex would involve a little box of tricks with either pure hardware or a processor and software too. With that you could have it lighting up when you get in the car and going out after you have started it. IMHO just chill with the illumination and get the switch working first! |
I've had quite a few cars start on the button for a necessity and it's simple to do.
My local alarm guy will do it for £20 so it takes nothing really. |
Easy to get it to light and go out when the car starts, just take a +ve feed from a switched supply, and earth it via the oil pressure sender.
Not running gives you an earth, running gives you +12V ish, so no light. |
Anyone out there fitted an ignition button to the dash, so that you press it to start the engine?? Maybe one that lights up until you start the engine - cheap to do (isn't it?) but soooo coooool!!!
