a few months ago i got a new engine for my WRX. it was fitted and it all seemed alright. it is now out of the 60 days warrent

i have now got a problem with the engine, a tappet is sticking and ticking away quite loudly. after speaking to a few people who know thier subaru stuff i have found out that this is a common problem on legacy engines. I was told how to identify the engine and it is out of a legacy. Can i contact the company i got the engine off and ask for a new one on the basis the engine they sold me was not for my application and i was not told that it was from a legacy? I have a feeling that consumer rights should say that i should have been told that the engine i was getting was an equivelent and not a replacment...

any help would be appreciated...

You have every right to get the correct engine but do make sure it's not a WRX unit before you make a fuss, as I have heard many WRX's tapping away, so it's not exclusive to Legacy's.

Its definitly not a WRX engine, its outa a legacy as it has the twin bolt style coil packs and a few other bits.

so i should be able to phone them up and ask for the correct engine? would i be pushing my luck trying to get any money back for the labour incurred and the cost of consumable, oil/filter, cambelt e.t.c??

I would ask for the correct engine

I have a legacy and the tappets are a pain, and would cost about £600 to get fixed at a subaru dealer.

Can you Tell me how to spot if its from a legacy, as the garage whos fittin my new engine have just told me their not sure that what they've been supplied is right, as it doesn't seem to fit.

the coil packs are twin bolt on the legacy and single bolt on imprezas.
