Pardon my ignorance... I know very little about a 'rolling roads'...

As far as I know a 'rolling road' discovers the top speed and BHP of a vehicle...

But how; like what do you do... Do you drive at full throttle through all your gears on the rollers or what...

Basically, it will only measure your bhp, this is done by driving the car through the gears then in 4th with is direct drive, it is taken all the way until the power dips at the end of the curve usually around 6-7 thousand revs. Its all worked out by the computer. Thats as much as i know, hope it helps.

then they do about 3 runs, each time taking it to the limiter

usually on the third run they take the reading

So while going through the gears, does one throttle until 'red line' or... is it more of a leisurely drive

Another way of putting it, its a dynomometer wich puts a "load" on the engine until the engine just starts to lose revs and cant give anymore,ie, full f*****g bore! its at this point it will measure its maximum power and torque. I used to do a similair job with British Rail Engineering 15 years back, dyno testing 3250 horsepower V16 Paxman Diesels In locomotives, definately not for the faint hearted but a fantastic noise! Il always remember the exhaust stacks glowing a nice cherry red, yes, the engine is working very hard!!
