Just reveiwed Pauls - Dynomite Scooby site.
I would like to know why there is a huge loss of power from the flywheel to the road wheels with scoobies. I know that blown cars tend to loose more power between the fly and the wheels than normally aspirated ones, are there even greater losses with the AWD system. And why there is a difference with some cars of the same BHP at the fly differ by 20-25BHP at the wheels - how odd!

The wonders of rolling roads, the losses are all due to the drivetrain, massive amounts for 4WD systems. for instance my car showed 248 BHP at the flywheel at PE, which i think was about 160BHP at the wheels, so a loss of 88BHP through the drivetrain ?

88bhp seems a bit much. Even my auto box only consumes about 80bhp, giving me about 150-60rwhp. Is AWD really that power-hungry?

4WD eats power I'm afraid.

Many 4WD cars I have seen (GT4, GTi-R, Scooby etc.) all seem to be 65 - 95 losses through the drivetrain. Cannot get away from it, without spending huge amounts of money and even then you will probably not get it down to FWD ~30bhp losses.

According to my little book, 88hp is about 65kW (which i can compare to household heating appliances - lots of them). Does the floor of your car get warm at all (er, like VERY warm)??

I wonder what it would look like from one of those thermal imaging cameras on a Police helecopter?

Thanks guys, just another point though, why do scoobies of the same BHP at the fly vary so much at the wheels! ie. by 20BHP in some cases?

cheers

Basically its down to the operator, if he dumps the clutch a fraction of a scond too early or too late after the power run the calculations get screwed up. The "at wheel" figure will always be more accurate because it isnt calculated its the actual measurement taken.

My old Mini with 104bhp at the wheels looks even more impressive now!

Why? Has the current owner fitted a bonnet scoop? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
