Hi, been asked to do some digging by a mate who's after a Scooby. We've seen a nice RB5 for sale quite reasonable & a Terzo [sp?]. Stretching to a P1 or 22B would mean sacraficing a few things but he wants a special edition if he can & at least 280bhp.
What would you say was a good one to go for & whats the power specs on the RB5 & Terezo?

Thanks for any advice

Thanks people.

The RB5 is 215Bhp standard or with the optional prodive upgrade 237Bhp, However it, and the P1 are set up specifically for british roads and it makes a big difference, I have an RB5 and would rather pay the extra money on parts rather than stretch to a P1 (which is what i have done). I wouldn't even bother with a jap spec, but thats only coz' i had big problems with an imported MR2 Turbo

There are a few rb5's out there seriously overpriced at Subaru dealers my local dealer has a standard example with 47k miles on the clock and they want nearly 18k for it. its been there for nearly a year.

For that sort of money you should be able to pick up a p1 I would guess ??.

Normal RB5s and Terzos have NO performance difference. They have better interiors, aircon, and solid rear bulkhead (so you cannot fold the rear seat down).

A number of RB5s had engine upgrades to 240ish BHP, and I think suspension and brake upgrades (WR Sport) but honestly not sure about this.

P1 utterly different kettle of fish, often regarded as the ultimate UK Impreza, 276BHP as standard. Standard brakes frowned on, as is the front bumper painting (eh Aaron?).

I paid £16500 For mine a year ago, Don't see how they can go up in value, and was offered £14000 trade in a couple of months ago.

They might go up in value in about 20yrs if you keep one with virtually no miles and showroom condition.

Isn't the Terzo based on a MY98 (phase 1 engine) with 208BHP and the RB5 is a MY99 (phase 2) with 218BHP (Subaru figures)??? That would make the RB5 ever so slightly faster.

The MY98 is also prone to piston slap, so I'd stick with the MY99 Phase 2 engine.

218PS - 215bhp but IIRC teh MY99 were slightly heavier offsetting the bhp gain

As i said all the "correct" information regarding the RB5 is on the RB5 Club Website.

:D

Okays here ones for the RB5OCers, explain this one. The kerb weight is listed as 1235kgs in the brochure on your site for an RB5 ie same as an MY99 UK turbo and yet it has an STI solid bulkhead shell, 17" alloys and air con .

nuclear_pond 09 May 2003 10:29 PM

Hes got us there. Maybe they are made of some space age material?

I dont think the 17 wheels will make much difference tho. Maybe the aircon & bulkhead. However even with the folding seats in a normal car, theres gonna be extra weight in the seat backs etc.

So I think it will just be aircon that makes any difference.

This has always confused me as my RA on the SVA says its 1240kgs kerb weight. Which I can sort of understand as its an RA which means it has a ally bonnet, lightweight boot and glass, no sound proofing, lightweight 16" STi alloys, no headlamp washers or bright switch ;), ally suspension bits and pieces but it has the electric pack and air con fitted.

Now the UK model is listed as 1235kgs and the only difference I can see weight wise is that mine has the solid shell (same as RB5) and air con (same as RB5) but has all the lightweight bits that the RB5 hasnt got.

The P1 is listed as 1285kgs which again has some lighter bits on, ally bonnet.

The only thing I am not sure about is the actual running gear and drivetrain. It may explain the extra weight if the components are uprated and stronger on the imports ?.

I dont know over to the RB5 experts.
