Spoke to the dealer earlier to at last get the car booked in for the new clutch (to replace 2nd faulty one at 26.5k) and new centre exhaust section.

Car has been in before at service as the OIL and STOP light keep flickering on the dashboard. Have checked oil level and its fine, car was only serviced 2k miles ago anyway.

Anyway, I explained the problem (again) to the dealer who said "hmm". I said that the oil leve was fine and i thought it maybe could be an oil pressure problem. I said that as I have some long journeys in the next couple of weeks i didnt want the engine to be starved of oil and seize.

The guy said (wait for it this is a classic) "it will be fine, just make sure you check the oil level so that its not too low".

I have only just got up off the floor.....

If its coming on at hot idle its time to get a compression test and beg a new engine out of the dealer! other than that id fix the idiot light, thats one you want working properly!

hehe - We had the same experience with our local dealer. Accelerator cable was fraying and caused the throttle to "stick" open.
My wife rang the dealer to get it booked in, and after explaining the problem she got "you didn't get a floormat stuck under the accelerator did you love?"

Actually you'd be surprised what gets stuck in and around pedals!:D

Once got a can of WD40 stuck under my brake pedal, bloody scary :eek:

It rolled around the back of the dash from the passenger side.

Well after the lease company giving the dealer a stern talking to, i will be depositing the car at the dealers in about 2 hrs. OIL and STOP are now on constantly and yes the oil level is ok.

Bad news is that i will probably get a 1.4 Polo for the next week !!!

Knew someone with a newish Golf Turbo with this problem.

Problem turned out to be a blocked oil strainer. Although the light only came on at 3000+ rpm. Everyone thought it was the sensor...til it was replaced, and a mechanical gauge was fitted to check it properly.

Had a works Berlingo van that would swear blind it had no oil every morning. I hated the peice of slow cr4p so I ignored it and hoped it did seize ;) Especially on my regular trips from Brum to London, when to hold it at 70mph uphill with a load was to redline in 4th gear :D

I have a nice new shiny Peugeot 307 Hdi Sedan for the week. Nice.

You need to get a mechanical pressure gauge fitted to see what the pressure is doing. Lights are all very well, but they don't give you the whole picture.

Its been to the dealer 3 times for the problem so far and up to now "no fault found" and no one can tell me exactly what investigation they did.

I will just wait for it to blow up. I couldnt give a sh1t about it any more. Good job its a co. car ;)

P.S. it happens when the engine is cold or hot, theres no pattern to it.
