Hi All,

I am new here,

My company has decided to move us to Guildford from Burgess Hill, so I am now looking at a 100 odd mile a day round trip.

I am looking for something that goes well, handles, and returns something approaching sensible MPG.

I used to have an R33 Vspec, but sold that, in order to get something older to do up.
now it looks like I am going to be spending my free time sitting in a car.

So to my question...

Should I get an 03 wrx or an 03 wrx STI ? I will be doing some small mods but I need this car to be reliable car and good for 25000 miles a year.

Or, alternatively, should I go for an 02 WRX/STI.

What is the real world difference between the WRX and the same years STI version ? and if I bolt on some goodies are they then similar cars ?

Lets put warranty details aside for the time being...

thanks for your help.

Sorry to say that no impreza returns a sensible mpg in comparsion to its rivals. Just look at it this way, 100 miles of smiles per day though.

If you want a cheap second hand MY02 STi(prodrive style). I have one for sale at £19,500. Email on profile if you want pics.

Expect about 240 miles from an STi on a motorway run, not much more from a standard WRX.

I can live with that.

Like I said before they seem a bit less juicy than the EVo's and Skylines.

plus I think Evo's have lost the edge now, the new shape STI looks better than any of the evos, IMO.

So what are the differences in real world terms.
Bottom line, is it worth the extra 5k for the STI badge ?

Cheers for you quick response !!

Having owned a MY01 WRX and now a MY02 STi I can say they are very different. What the std WRX does very well the STi does with a vengance.

I think everyone will agree the STi could do with a bit more low down grunt, but once it spools up it fan-bloody-tastic.

I have used the STi as my everyday car for a year and find it no problem.

I'l sure you will be happy, whichever you choose.

It will be better than my R33 was and my 200 sx is now, at least according to the brochure...

R33 5mpg on track, the best I ever got was 205 miles on a motorway run tank held about £40.

200 SX is not fun on long journeys in winter and returns similar mileage to the skyline on a motorway run.
