I'M NOT GRUMBLING OVER PETROL COMPSUPTION, JUST A COMPARISION OVER STANDARD FORM AND PPP CARS obviously you don't buy an impreza if your'e worried about the petrol costs.personally, the first week of running in i got 270 miles from full tank to red light, this was strictley keeping to the limits, air con on that tank full approx 15 mins in total. also please mention if you was using 95 or 97 ron fuel at the time, or additives other than that also . how does this compare to your 01/02 or 97 to 00 models, my 97 previous as i can remember did 270 to the tank full at 6000 miles.

MY03 WRX without PPP:
1st tank used Optimax and got 310 miles (around £42 to fil up) - mainly B roads driving pretty steady.

2nd tank used SUL and got 322 miles - mainly motorway driving

Will report on PPP, once fitted - due on saturday.

By the way what is the price of a gallon based on 83.9 p / litre?

Over the first 3000 miles I got 30MPG (PPP'd at 1600).
Recently got 33MPG on a 290 mile motorway stretch with a full loaded boot and two passengers, AC on about 10% of that time.
Now getting a bit more heavy with the right foot - haven't re-calculated the average (done 5600+ miles), but I'm happy with the number of times I have to fill up. Nearly always Optimax, except on rare ocassions when I've been caught short.

thankyou for the replies, i was getting about 310 miles to the tank as standard, just had ppp fitted and wondered if it was going to be a big loss in consumption? on the last visit to the garage she only put 3/4 of a tank in and only got about 185 miles from it, but i suppose the first quarter does move slow from the full mark, don't reckon it would be 100 miles worth though? aircon was on a bit about 15 mins, this was on A and B roads, no particular long journeys. ok i know full tank required next time.

be interesting what yours does with ppp fitted and some miles on the clock aswell ?

Average MPG over 4900 miles = 29.2
Average from 3000 to 4900 miles = 27.9 (Mostly twisties on A-roads in Northern Ireland).
You may find that your fuel economy actually increases with the PPP depending on your driving style. You may find that you make use of the extra low-down torque and use the turbo less.
Overall I'm very happy with the economy and performance. I was expecting low 20's !

Actually, 26.1 MPG is the average for the NI blast (35.2 Gallons, 920 miles), the 27.9 figure included some motorway driving in England. Surprised to find shell hasn't rolled out optimax there yet!

Lol, i dont ever get more than 200 miles on a full tank, i cant resist unleasing the beast. Since fitting a PPP kit i havent noticed much reduction in fuel consumption. Ive got an 02 impreza.

32MPG (WRX MY03) all motorway driving at between 70-90+ and keeping the revs below 4K. Far better than my MY00 Turbo, best was 26MPG, 23 overall. Aircon on 100% of the journey, it was warm on Wednesday afternoon.

PPP on Monday, so lets see what happens then!

good replies again, i just got 24.2 mpg on a combined run of 'a' AND 'B' roads, a steady drive, and a good thrash,so its quite a good all round comparison. reckon on a tank full like this, it will do 300 miles.i was using optimax and done 1600 miles so might even improve a bit later on and its got ppp. so overall compared to the classic i had at 270 to the tank its not bad.

I was interested in the effects of air-con and so kept an eye on it when I had my VR6 Golf. It had a computer etc. so I knew the mpg. On a reasonable run on A and B roads I estimated that the air-con increased the consumption such that I got about 1 or 2 mpg less with it on than with it off. My experiments were hardly scientific but, generally speaking, on a regular 40 mile trip I take a few spirited overtaking bursts would have been enough to make up for keeping the air-con turned off, in terms of the petrol used on the run. I just don't look at the mpg for the Subaru and so have no idea of the impact of air-con on it but I would see no reason why it shouldn't be similar to on the Golf.

r5obbo - yes had the PPP fitted on saturday and the smile has returned... ive recently heard a 'mixed bag' of reports on the PPP for the MY03 (hesitation on acceleration), but I think its spot on.

Will report on mileage in a few days, but im guessing it will be less because of my lead right foot!

MPG for MY03 = 29 per gallon

Just collected my MY03, after fitting PPP at the 1K service and can feel no hesitation at all. It pulls cleanly to 5K (self imposed rev limit for a few miles) and feels much quicker than the standard car.

Could have a problem with consumption now, due to using the extra performance, but I should calm down again in a couple of weeks and will post the figures then.

now
after too many mods to list ie; big turbo, injectors. blah blah

150 miles to £42 of optimax c/w £4 of nf

......but slightly quicker ;)

MY03 WRX, first 200 odd miles - 24.5MPG, all A and B roads, with Aircon off. Always run on Optimax.

Travelling to London and back tomorrow, will post resulting MPG on Thursday.

PPP to be fitted at 1K service, next week.

So how are we all getting on now? Mine's up for renewal in Feb and I'm really tempted by the PPP. So is my wife as she drives it most and thinks the MY02 we have now doesn't compare with our MY99 in performance.(Quite rightly)

Not saying I'm tight because these cars are expensive to run full stop, but wouldn't want to see my fuel economy taking a right pasting.

Most of the time ours doesn't get thrashed, but would appreciate the extra torque low down that comes with the PPP.
