I have replaced all my brake pads and bled the system,
done 1000 miles bled the system another 5 times in the correct
Subaru sequence and fitted a brake support bracket
but the pedal is still very spongy, although rock solid when
then engine is off (no servo)
I have noticed that when the pedal is pressed brake fluid squirts
back up into the resevoir, could it be the master cylinder
seals are worn or do scoobys do this?

MY97 49,000 miles

ABS fitted, because all the ABS models I have driven seem to feel spongy

It does have ABS, but I dont think fluid should squirt
back up into the reservoir, should it???????

No, it sounds like you may have an air pocket in the ABS unit, I have some bleeding instructions for the abs unit if you need, it will just need to find them.

Submannz
That would be usefull if you could mate.

any news on this ? or is it just bleed, go and do a few ABS stops, then bleed again ?

just wondering, as I've have problems with mine for ages & I'm getting tyred of having to bleed mine every month.
could obviously just be the crappy aftermarket brakes I have (3rd set & counting!)

I have not heard yet, but hope this could help.

If you get someone to pump your brake pedal hard (engine on)
do you get fluid squirting back into the reservoir????

d'no Col, but will check next time I let someone sit in the car! :)

hopefully when I bleed mine! & when I do, they're ok for a drive round the block- really sharp & crisp feeling - but then they fade to dull , to looooong - so maybe !
got a my97 too .. but with x2 on mileage
