ok i dida search on oils and found so many threads with so many people saying diffrent things

im confused!!
what rating oil is recomened for the scooby?
i have much chepaness access to normal, semi synthetic and fully synthetic from my mate at quickfit ;)
one of the lads says fully synth is way to thin for my car and it made his 60k astra leak when it was hot

from memory there was 10/40 and 10/50 for the 2 synths and sumthing else for the normal one

which one should i be useing? it had a 60k service 3000 miles ago and its time to change the oil

Your mate probably put a 0 rated fully synthetic in his car, people like myself put a 15w50 rated fully synthetic in.
The best and most rated fully synthetics for scoobs are:-

Motul 300v 15w50 fully synth
Mobil1 Motorsport 15w50 fully synth
Castrol 10w60 fully synth.

Fully synthetic is def the way to go on a scooby.
Ive heard that Motul is excellant (think ive spelt it wrong, anybody!) Or Mobil 1 is highly recomended for the scooby, dont use 0w 40 though, only use the 10 w 50.
The only way an engine will 'leak' is if any gaskets or seals are shagged, nothing to do with what oil it uses! The differance between a synthetic oil and a cheap mineral oil is that the synth' is man made, amongst other things!

but my egines lash adjusters make a bit of a racket when its cold, so would a thicker one be a better bet??

i think mobil make the quickfit oils
im 100% sure they make the normal one, but i can check for the synths

so a 10/40 or a 10/50 will be fine?

A fully synthetic oil would be better for your engine for a number of reasons, the biggest one being that its better at absorbing the temperatures that a turbo charged engine produces and doesnt break down as easily.
Subaru UK use 10w40 semi synthetic, i wouldnt see any problems running a 10w50 fully synthetic but the ones stated are the best you can get and are highly recommended ;)
It should also cure your engine noise problem which sounds like the tappets are not getting enough oil when you start up, the thicker oil may decrease performance until it heats up but it will stick to the top part of your engine better than a thinner oil.

Exactly spot on and Mickey, tell the bloke wiv the Astra to get a decent engine & stop talking sh1te

the astra has a 2.0 16v XE lump with a cos-cast head
its defo not a ****e lump!

I think the point about the vauxhall's engine is that if oil is coming out of it, it needs something replacing and if it also over heated..... (even i didnt have 0w40 rated oil come out of my peugeots engine).

The point i was trying to make is that your m8 was talking bllx about oil leaks because he used a synthetic engine oil, not that the 2L XE engine is xxxt. I should know as i had one in a Cav GSI once and used Mobil 1 without any probs.

yeah but
thinner oil will find its way out of tiny ickle gaps in an engine that u woulndt notice ifit was thicker ;)
i think thats what he meant about it anyways
i wouldnt want to stick a oil in thats to thin and end up breaking the car

replaced 10w50 with mobil 1 15w50 and noticed it was a load quieter on start up ;)

lol its so confusing lol

Just to clear things up about the Vauxhall, Vauxhall use CORK gasketts, these break down when used will fully synthetic oils.
