Can someone explain, what exactley is re-mapping, who does it?, how much does it cost? and can any sccob with a standard ECU be re-mapped or is it only for scoons with piggy back ecu's fitted.

The reason I ask is because I want to decat MY97 STI TYPE R and maybe get rid of the center section or resonator due to a faily quite exhuast note. People say it will then need re-mapping.

doesn't need re-mapping through simply de-cating (i think)

just had mine done and it is fine.

It may not need remapping, but it could have problems if you don't and don't have something like a knocklink. Whilst you can pretty much be safe putting a decat on a UK car (except P1 and STi Type UK) it is a different story on imports as the overboost that could be induced can exacerbate and existing lean spot, and the timing is too advanced to stop it detting when this happens on some cars.
