Just avoid the alarm and intercooler.

yep u can. i ordered an engine bay cleaning kit from mark underwood and i was a bit dubious about power hosing the engine bay but see my reply to this thread .
Hope this helps. cheers big sinky |
Definitely avoid the intercooler. Seen one guy spray it and spent the rest of the weekend with a feeler gauge sorting it out :D:D:D

Thanks Guys:D

Just make sure you protect the alloy parts after cleaning or you'll have a corroded mess in a few weeks.....
That's what the sticky goo on the manifolds etc does when you buy the car new. F |
Does that mean you can spray the battery and alternator as well? Just not the intercooler and alarm.
|
Yeah - I used the ("wax wizard") engine cleaning kit yesterday. Smart results, and I pressure-sprayed EVRYTHING. Didn't spray the alarm housing too much, but it certainly goot wet. I was dubious too, but it's OK - works just as per the instructions.

Floyd - it doesn't. The sticky goo is Cosmoline. The entire car is coated in the stuff when it is shipped from Japan. The primary reason is to protect the cars from salt water spray. When the cars reach the dockside in the UK (or any other country), the Cosmoline is blasted off using a combination of steam and parafin. As you can imagine, this would not do the engine any good, so it gets left on. Follow Mark Underwood's instructions and it can be removed easily and won't bugger up the alloy bits. Done it on both of my Scoobs with no problems.

What about the alternator and other bits that go 'orid? You could always come and help me clean my engine :) F |
if you have a red engine (ie STi or P1) then be careful you dont blast the red coating off (as i did the other week!!)
|
You've just got a dodgy car Floyd! :) Seriously never had a problem on any part of the engine using MArk's method.
