Hello.
Can anyone suggest any software which I can use to turn jpeg or bitmap images into desktop icons?

IIRC all you need to do is save them as bitmaps and change the extension to .ico

I'm pretty sure bitmaps are not the same as icon files, best tool around is microangelo which will let you do this as well as create your own and even extract icons from .exe's and .dll's

I beg to differ.

I've just tested this by renaming a bmp file as an ico file and then selecting it as a desktop icon and it works.

Find the file in My Computer (or Explorer), right click it, choose rename.

Fig,

It wont always work, icons can contain masks say when you are using them on buttons and the button can appear as enabled or disabled, moot point but Ive written code to convert between the formats because they are not the same!

Fairy snuff, not looked into it to that depth.
