If money wasn't an issue then what would be your choice of the above 4 models and why?

I have been down the dealerships this morning and really should have kept away. Looked at all 4 models above and still think the P1 would be my ultimate choice but I really like the other 3 models as well. (visiting dealership was only to browse, wouldn't pay their over inflated prices :p )

I have only driven my MY98 scoob (only mods are full decat and forge dv) so have no idea how these other models compare which is why I am asking you folks for your opinions on whats your favourite. :D

Sorry if its been done to death before but I am very tempted to change my scoob this summer (simply cos I have put 15k miles in one year and I don't want to lose too much in value by doing high mileage in it as its just coming upto 45k miles) and want to hear others experiences and opinions.

Cheers in advance for any helpful replies :)

STI8

Bravo2zero_sps 19 April 2003 03:43 PM

Hi Tim, for what reason though?

Looks? Features/build? Performance?

Vinesh 19 April 2003 04:23 PM

EVO :)

For tuning capabilities

I was in your position 2 months ago. chose p1 mainly because if i went for sti i would want ppp as well, which made it too expensive. hopefully the p1 will not depreciate as much as the others and finally imo it looks the best.

Steve Whitehorn 19 April 2003 04:55 PM

P1.
Purely on looks.
I am sure that they are all a great drive in their own ways.

STI 8..! Basically its a newer car, you will have loads of warranty left, and the opportunity for a PPP..!!! I still prefer the looks of the classic P1 but usually new cars are an improvment on the last...

Cant understand why the UK300 is up there with those as its basically the same as a normal MY02 WRX but with a few cosmetic differences..!

UK300 is up there cos I like its cosmetic additions and its a Limted edition :D

So far the P1 replies have basically said what I have been thinking, looks and its exclusivity in terms of it holding value etc.

Does any know/heard rumours if there are any plans to bring out a P1 follow up?

Scooby Wagon 19 April 2003 05:12 PM

I was in the same position, bought a P1 for the same reasons as scooby-k

Only had it a month but no regrets

P1. Because prodrive made sure it was a great car to drive on our british roads, like the RB5, these were pure driving machines and not the marketing hype of the latter models. Although the STi 8 is a great car, it somehow to me anyway, didn't light my fire when i drove it. It did'nt feel like the rally special of the older models, and other rally specials, ie:Lancia Integarle, Escort Cosworth, celica GT4, EVO 6 etc. It's lost some roughness which the earlier cars had. That's why it has to be the P1. This is my thought for the day.

SiBurt 19 April 2003 05:42 PM

PPP'd STi8.Nuff said!

Mickle 19 April 2003 05:59 PM

Regards warranty I've still got 1 1/2 years standard waranty left with the 2 year extended option on top of that on my P1. Went for it cause it looks the best. Even the STI8 makes the bug eyed STI7 look pretty :D

P1Fanatic 19 April 2003 06:10 PM

P1 for sure (no I dont have one already before anyone asks). Is the best looking but at the same time looks super agressive. It has road presence and for me is the best impreza ever made (the 22b being more of a car to show off than drive due to expensive parts etc).

Simon.

TREG 19 April 2003 06:38 PM

p1-looks fantastic and drives like a dream.

Dave R 19 April 2003 06:50 PM

V6 STI Type R Ltd and a big bike ;);)

scoobynutta555 20 April 2003 03:15 AM

P1 2 doors not 3, hi bravo remember me lol. seriously, get the P1 for the best car mentioned for the money, looks, speed, exclusivility, peter stephens, coupe, trust me its the best UK drivable car u can buy for the money and the one thats most guaranteed to make u go :) u have to have gold wheels, forget pslewis lol

Hol 20 April 2003 07:44 AM

STI8 with APS top mount, Decat and Tek4,

STI8 has the up to date styling and with a decat and TEK management running through a HUGE topmount, no one will ever know you are knocking on an easy 350BHP. (mind you, a uprated clutch will soon follow)

HOL- linked TypeR ownwer ;)

CTRnutter 20 April 2003 08:27 AM

STI-8

with PPP, RSK, Downpipe, and a couple more little goodies,

The resons why, Evolution, I prefer the interior finish and the the looks of the cabin, I prefer the new light clusters rear and front, the shortech LSD its a new car and the drive is great, thats about it. :)

Bravo2zero_sps 20 April 2003 09:22 AM

Hi Scoobynutta, yeah can't forget that night out on the beers LOL.

I think its got to be the P1 for me as its the only one I have been adament I am going to own at some stage. I wont be happy till I have had one so no point getting anything else.

After that will be the R34 GTR VSPEC, yeah right better keep buying the lottery tickets  or find myself some rich chick :D

bigsinky 20 April 2003 09:30 AM

bravo don't knock m8. an R34 V-Spec can be had for the price of a new STI - 8

/homer mode on

hmmmmm.........R34 V-Spec......

/homer mode off

Bravo2zero_sps 20 April 2003 09:45 AM

Cheapest one I have seen is for 30k and then upwards of 35k for decent low mileage ones, and then if you want a UK one its 40k plus :( Long time away before I will ever get near that, so will have to wait till their prices drop further. Then there is the running costs which I believe make running a scoob seem like running a fiesta in comparison to a Skyline

Only considering P1 now cos prices have dropped to as low as 18k  :D

Bigsinky, I will own an R34 one day, just a matter of time like it was getting my first scoob, and then waiitng (currently) to get a P1 etc.

essexscooby 20 April 2003 11:39 AM

Bravo
Get yourself a P1 mate! It has to be the best out of the models you mentioned for looks performance and the best bit is you wont lose as much in residual value as in the other models (esp the STI8) as the bulk of the loss has already happened:D just my opinion but hope it helps mate! whichever you get make sure you put some pix on here for us to see!

Keith
MY00 P1 (not surprisingly:D)

Chins 20 April 2003 06:02 PM

Ive had three of the four cars. P1, UK300 PPP and STI 7. Also thinking about a return to Scoobydom.

Out of the 4 cars you mention the UK300 would go straight away. Downright dull.

You dont talk about money, but there are a lot of very overpriced P1's out there. If your picking one up for 17-18k, then IMHO it will be very good value and will lose 4-5k over the next couple of years. But most cars are coming out of their warranty period and in my experience are not as good as the new STI 7 and STI 8.

Money wise a good UK STI 7 with 2 years warranty and costing 19-20k would be VERY good value. If your happy with the looks then its probably the one to go for. If the STI 9 get a 2.5 litre engine, then the hit on values wont be anywhere near the hit on an 8. The 8 is a better car, but 4-5k more ?

If you want the ultimate car, then 22B excepted the 8 is the one to go for. The P1 looks stuck in the last millenium to me, plus its not as fast A-B as the new shape.

Money no object eh? Well, It would be a black MY03 STi 8 *without* PPP.

Why? well, I like the P1, but, well, me being me, I'd want the newest possible car I could get, and that has to be the STi 8. As for why without PPP, well, if I was in the position of being able to have an STi 8 then I'd also be in the position to relentlessly modify it, and thus why worry about having PPP to preserve warranty, as I'd be invalidating the warranty by junking the standard exhaust, ecu and induction system. Yup, it'd be prob Link or Motec for ECU, some type of completley decatted exhaust system, some induction kit type thing, fmic, hybrid turbo, and who knows what else, probably all sourced from a certain Mr A too :)

Ah, one can but dream :)

scoobynutta555 20 April 2003 09:44 PM

Re the warranty issue, a properly serviced P1 with no outrageous mods will be valid for an extended warranty for 2 years when original one runs out, something like £400? And as for the styling looking something out of the old millenium, thats a persoanl preference, just like i hate the bug eye shape with a passion, and the blob eye isnt much better, ;)

Theres certainly a lot of P1s to choose from, i did a search on autotrader and found 40+ for sale

Also if youre saving for the next car you want to run something thats not going to lose you money through depreciation, a newer/new car will lose loads in the few years youll be keeping it, so it makes sense to get a P1 that will have lost the worst of its depreciation, i cant really see the price dipping to 12k in the next 2 years, as has been suggested above.

P1 for obvious reasons :)
