I was told by the AA man that that it's a problem with all imports because in Japan there petrol is really week so you have to tell the ecu that the mixture is much richer and that should solve the stutter or lag you get when you excellerate quickly .Anyone heard of such a thing or had the same problem and solved it doing this.

The petrol in japan is actually 'stronger' than ours, not a very good term to use.. There petrol has a higher RON rating than fuel in the uk.. In japan there fuel is rated between 100-102 RON where ours is 97 RON for super unleaded and an apparant 98.9 for shell optimax..!

It is actually our petrol that is weaker if you like..

Petrol in Japan has a higher octane rating (100 RON) than UK fuel. In fact, UK fuel is 'weaker' - 95/97 RON. Imports should be remapped for UK fuel or run with octane booster. Use Search - this is a common topic of conversation on Scoobynet.

LOL @ the battery selling joke, was it on rouge traders when the RAC were selling batteries to everyone when all they needed was charging up?

TonyBurns 19 April 2003 04:32 PM

Just to ensure you are running the right fuel  your jap import needs a MINIMUM of super unleaded fuel (octane booster is advisable also!).
Failure to comply will lead to engine failure :(
