Yes, looks good, but like you say range is only about 600 Metres which is not very good.

I have sent a query to see if the range could be incresed by fitting a booster or something, I will let you know what they say.

Hi all..

Just found this great add-on pager type kit

booster or something = minicab aerial.

<I>I was actually thinking more along the lines of an ex CB radio 200 Watt 'Burner'</I> http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Still the smartest looking alarm pager I've seen, all the others I've seen for sale or in use look like 1980's BT Pagers !! I'm sure you could boost the signal but it then begs the question .. licence required ?

I'm seriously thinking about it ... or am I just paranoid 'cause if they open the doors I'm still 500 m away !!

Maplin and RS do a range of 418MHz transmitters with scrambled codes that work up to a couple of miles...but they're expensive. I've built a cheaper version that works well up to around 100 meters real world, and am looking into expanding the range by fitting an active aerial on the receiver (it's illegal on transmitter.... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif ). I'm short on cash at the moment though, so it will be a few months before I get a chance to experiment.

The quoted 2000 feet range of theat unit is tested on "clean" open field i.e. No computers, brick walls, radios, TV's etc around to mess with the signal which obviously will dractically cut it's range.

I have a (maplin sourced) remote paging unit installed under the dash in my car - attached to autowatch cat 1 alarm - again it has limited range (RF only in the UK) but it serves a purpose - it warns of any status change on the alarm and also has second input for voltage drop sensor etc. - best thing is being able to tell whether or not the car alarm going off is yours or not when you are in bed / at work in a meeting etc....

gets through quite a lot of 9v batteries in the receiver unit- but no problems with it so far. I also had a hidden switch installed for the sender unit so it doesn't drain the battery when leaving car for a long time.

NB - keep the transmitter unit WELL away from your alarm itself - it could interfere with the infra-red locking if too close.

cheers,

Paul W

pwebb..

Don't suppose you have a Maplin part no or price do you ? and just another ... what's the range in the real world ?

damn -
maplin web site says this is discontinued (though you could call to see if there is stock left somewhere) - cost = £32 - range is 1/2 mile but this tails off to about 400 yds as the 9v battery loses charge in the receiver.

url on maplin site is:

https://catalogue.maplin.co.uk/products/frameres.tpl?command=search&db=../databases/Products.db&SKU=18281&partcode=MU20W:MU21X:&cart=9 53252066761699&eqskudata=18281&eqgroupdatarq=V EHICLE%20ALARMS

could also be available elsewhere - there are others - and most are probably better looking/neater than the one I have ! - does the job though

good luck,

Paul W
