Hi,

Can anyone help?

Do I need a cross-over cable if I wish to directly connect a PC to a Zyxel 650HW-11 router on one of the 4 LAN ports or will a standard straight cable be okay?

I am trying to configure the router but can not get access via Telnet or via IE :(

Thanks guys

Darren

Fixed now

isn't there a serial port (may look like RJ45) for telnet ?

My old EN5681 needed a cisco console cable too.

The LAN ports are are straight through.....

darlodge 15 April 2003 05:21 PM

Thanks guys.

On the reverse there are 4 x RJ45, 1 x 9v power socket, 1 x DSL socket and one power button :(.

I was mid way through programming the router when for no reason the connection dropped out and I can no longer connect, be it via all 4 of the RJ45 ports, 2 different cables (1 cross, 1 straight). I have tried connecting via Telnet but this provides me with a message stating that Telnet cannot connect on port 23 (default telnet port) and have also tried access the router by IE. I can't ping it any more on the default IP address :( It’s all a bit frustrating!!

What I want to do is connect to the router and then reload the firmware that I downloaded from the manufacturer, but I can't get access.

Darloge

Sorry to hear your having problems :(

Have you tried resetting it using the button on the back http://www.zyxel.com/support/support...50/index_f.php

If worst came to worst the unit would have to be re-flashed. This can only be done either by Zyxel or the supplier.

Cheers RoadrunnerV2 :D

I did try resetting it, but I don't think I held the reset button in long enough despite reading the website:D I'll try it again tonight. I have checked all the documentation on the ZyXEL website and everything else is working correctly, DSL line is up (Green), LAN ports are up (Amber -100MB connection), SYS port is up (Green), ACT is up (flashing Green - traffic).

If I can't get any joy, I'll contact the supplier of the router or ZyXEL direct.

This is all quite embarrassing really as I have just sat a Cisco course, but then again this is not a Cisco router :D

Cheers

Reset the config (holding the reset button in) and tried again. Set up the config as usual and then tried again. Still no luck. I then changed over microfilters and restarted and then it worked. I was on the internet:D

The cheap £6 microfilter that I bought does not really do the job very well. If you pick up the phone it squellls like a modem. Not good. Just purchased a branded microfilter from Nildram. Lets see how that goes.

Cheers everyone for all your help.

Darren
