Just read the Autoexpress in this week's issue. It comes 3rd behind Honda Integra/Ford Racing Puma.
I always thought Auto Express was a suspect publication - this just confirms it........!!
No real mention of value for money / depreciation / reliability etc; hardly a thorough test

Nightmare 15 March 2000 04:03 PM

well we all know that scoobies are a bit crap, and that adding an aluminium gear knob, wider arches and about 7K makes for the best car. Just look at Cossies http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Weaver 15 March 2000 04:30 PM

Yup and if you made it in Italy and gave it fancy name that no can spell people would pay over a hundred thousand for it, eh Night http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

What reasons did they give for giving it third place. Interior? fuel economy? thief magnet?

Steve Godson 15 March 2000 05:06 PM

Some nonsense about light, imprecise steering & dated interior which is a bit rich
when you experience the interior of the integra (which I have on a test drive)& the ford with its "furry" steering wheel.....

Am i right in thinking that you drive a diablo at 26 years old. If so, cool, well done.

I always presumed you were an old boy.
When I am your age now, (about four years time), I'll race you in my F40.

Let them place the Impreza 3rd.

This is the same mag that likes Estate cars and Diesels don't forget!!!

Out of the 3 cars, I know which I drive and which I would have over the other two even if it was twice the price.

Racing Puma, have they driven one??

Paul K 16 March 2000 04:43 PM

I read about Autoexpress placing the scooby last so i thought i would get said publication to see what had made them come to this bizarre conclusion . I expect most of you have read the article so i wont bother quoting from it , but they seemed to me to contradict themselves by placing it last because the writing about it seemed quite complimentaryish apart from the normal complaints . But then it struck me what imho they are doing and i had just fallen for it hook line and sinker . Imagine if you will this secenario : people are thumbing through the mag , as you do , they see the test results SCOOBY LAST they think to themselves aarrrrrgh how's that happened ? are the other 2 better than i thought ? is the scooby getting on a bit ? WHAT ? BETTER BUY IT , so i can i find out what's wrong with it .Its then when you get it home that you begin to realise what imho they are doing . Or have i just got a suspicious mind ? if you read it you might see what i mean . ( make sure you borrow one though ! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif ) no offence to anybody or anything mentioned above etc..
Cheers Paul

Nightmare 16 March 2000 05:27 PM

Adam - yep, fraid so! look forward to the race http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Penni - hello again....

PaulK - oooh cynical http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif I think that mags are deciding (maybe fairly?) that whilst the Imp is still the best 'bangs for your buck' machine, the others are catching, and the bad bits about the Imprezza (interior etc) arent really getting much better.....

Chunky 16 March 2000 06:53 PM

What a load of Bollo***. I've been a subscriber to Auto Express for about 4 years and I just cannot beleive this latest test.
Having tested a Integra R, a while ago I thought it was a reasonably quickish motor, but the worst thing was that if you really wanted to have a banjo, you ended up having to rev the kn****rs off it, which just did'nt seem necessary when you compare it to the effortless pace of an Impreza. As for the RACING PUMA I can't for the life of me think who can rate it so highly or who the hell is going to buy such an overpriced, underpowered, crappy little shopping car.The Honda and the Ford are simply not in the same league as the scooby when it comes down to the things that matter.
Value,Performance,Handling and plain old http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

Come on guys'n'gals

On one hand you complain that too much exposure affects resales, image and exclusivity.

On the other, any word written about the car must be positive.

Who cares? You've made your choices just enjoy what is still a great car. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Lee (No I haven't read the article - can't be bothered!)

Black Cat 16 March 2000 07:29 PM
