I have a MY01 WRX standard spec (and I guess standard brakes), any advice on how long the brake pads/discs will last (roughly).

To give some idea on my driving style my Bridgestone Potenza's that came with the car lasted me 15000 miles (from new).

The last service (at 15000) they told me my tyres were fcuked, which they were and quoted me 600 a set, I said fcuk off, and got them done down the road for 360 quid odd for GSD-3 (from advice on here).

Anyway, they said nothing about my brakes and you know what main dealers are like.

So, I can only deduce from all that that they must still be in good shape.

I've now done about 17500 miles and the brakes are getting a bit squeaky, althought the discs still look in good shape (can't see the pads), but I'm certainly no expert.

I did a search on this subject cos I thought it be a common one, but didn't get much from that, so any advice would be much appreciated.

How longs a peice of string?

I've had my MY99 RB5 for almost 4 years now. I've had 2 sets of front discs and pads. The first set of discs were replaced in just 7,500 miles under warranty due to some fault. First set of pads were replaced around 10K. I've now done an extra 35K on the 2nd set of pads and discs, albeit they are no ready for the bin.

I've been told I need discs and pads for the rear too, so they've lasted since new (approx. 45K).

I'm much harder on my tyres than my brakes; lots of fast B-roads with plenty of S-bends so no really log straights or last-minute heavy braking to speak of.

I go through tyres every 10-15K, so I wouldn't judge your brakes by that measure.

Depends on your driving style, but I'd suggest you're probably looking at 20-25k out of your front pads.

Personally over the last 50k / 2 years in my MY00 Turbo I changed the original tyres at 16k (6k after buying it) and have since changed them approx every 16-18k, the original front pads lasted 20k, front discs 45k, I've just changed the rear discs last weekend after 60k, rear pads lasted until 50k I think. Front pad life is variable, depends on how many trackdays I do and where they are, but on the last set of Pagids I did Spa and got 8k of road use.

HTH.

I've done 17500 miles from new, changed all tyres at 15500, haven't done any track days, but I do like the very occassional burn thru a twisty A/B road up through some mountains.

So it looks like I should be OK for a few more 000 miles, I'll keep my eye on them and see how it goes.
