Am looking to improve my somewhat lacking driving skills, and have been told that advanced driving course is the way to go. Anyone know of somewhere in the South East that offers this, that they can recommend.
Have been told the going price is about £120.

i have done the above- excellent BUT using your own car you can shag bits as easy as a trackday so it may not end up cheap! Good but not cheap.

Costs about £45 membership to the IAM (institute of advanced motorists), then you get assigned an observer who will guide you, you use your own car and pasy for petrol, but you don't pay for lessons as such. Then when you are good enough you can apply for the test where you are examined by a current Police driver, the test is £40.

I have been doing it myself, Had my test yesterday! Passed with flying colours!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D

Doesn't matter if your young or old, anyone can do it! I'm only 22 heh, and am very please at passing!!!!

Also, has it made any difference on your insurance?

IAM dosnt teach you how to drive your scoob. They teach you to drive safely and correctly as in the highway code. It is a good course to do as it makes you alot more aware of what is going on around you and allows you to become a safer driver.

If you want to learn how to drive your scoob in a different in a different style then maybe a track day course would be more suitable, as you can really push you and your car to the limit.

Or, you could combine your tuition budget for the next 10 yrs and go on John Lyons HPC course - http://www.high-performance-course.co.uk/

Fantastic... and despite the cost you won't regret it... Although in a scoob he takes you to Chobham and Millbrook, but not MIRA...

As for insurance, some companies do give you a small discount - 5 - 10%, but not all of them.
