I wave, nod and flash Scoobys all the time that are heading in the opposite direction, but today pulled up next to one at some traffic lights, glanced over and he glanced over but what do you do? smile, thumbs up? it just felt awkward and he seemed the same....
Or should I have just looked ahead and raced him....
Col

LG John 13 April 2003 12:01 AM

Hold 3k rpm and wait for him to so much as twitch when those lights turn green ;) :D

*Sonic* 13 April 2003 12:03 AM

Carry a Crash Helmet on your passenger seat, so the next time you pull along side a scoob at the lights, look the driver straight in the eye, then put your crash helmet on :)

Colin P 13 April 2003 12:11 AM

Could have played it that way, we were sitting under a railway bridge, mine was rumbling away (how they do in tunnels and he had two little standard pipes!) but I was thinking more of being friendly to a fellow scoob owner.

LG John 13 April 2003 12:18 AM

In my experience every scooby owner I've pulled up next to has wanted to play - where conditions permit. I know what you mean though because it is awkward. If you put the thumbs up and he/she isn't an enthusiast then you'll look a right prat!!

kwiky 13 April 2003 12:51 AM

race um every time!
and have fun every time

scoobycar60 13 April 2003 08:52 AM

When someone pulls up alongside me (in another Impreza) I always look like I'm going to race, rev the engine etc. Then laugh as he dumps his clutch/wastes a load of SuL. I always do a granny start and let them scream off into the distance. I'm pretty sure I know what my car can do and don't feel the need to "prove" it to some Ned in a hugely bewinged MAX Power mobile.

Now if your talking what would I do on a wide twisty mountain road that is *playtime*

Hotpants 13 April 2003 08:57 AM

Gun it , especially if you've acknowledged them & they've completely blanked you. Then again gun it if they have responded , in fact basically erm Gun it.

Had a chat with the guy next to me at the lights last week. Said hello, complimented the car... and then tried to burn him off!!
Girlfiend thought it was very odd talking to complete strangers at the traffic lights!
Little does she know!

Jen 13 April 2003 10:41 AM

Usually just smile :) You look like a **** if you try and race them and they've actually got 400bhp or you end up looking like a little boy-racer ;):D lol! ...usually a leisurly start and then a "spirited run" if they're up for it :)

UHF 13 April 2003 10:46 AM

A nod and a smile usually works but you gotta make sure he dont get the wrong impression :( Then as Saxo Boy says, dial up 3k and get ready just in case ;)

john banks 13 April 2003 11:05 AM

It is fun with new STis because I absolutely cream them with about double the power to weight ratio when they think they'll win. Go for it every time if it is a bloke and safe to do so. Somehow feel a little inhibited if it is a lady ;) as she would probably correctly think I was a bit of a neddy ****.

chockymonster 13 April 2003 11:17 AM

Usually nod, then gnu it :)
My wife does the same (usually!)

UHF 13 April 2003 11:19 AM

gnu it? A secret linux lover or a typo?

Turbo Tina 13 April 2003 08:59 PM

I always smile, pull away and then nail it as most guys don't expect a girly to race them, probably don't think it's my car!!!!

TT

keefa 13 April 2003 09:13 PM

happened to me last week, a casual glance over, then looking straight ahead, pull off on just about near stall tick over and gently pootle up the road like an old granny, whilst letting the green impreza 'unmarked' police car, drive into the distance. hmm.

Marky-San 13 April 2003 09:35 PM

I wave - if they respond I just drive along and admire. If they dont wave - I openly pick my nose to disgust them and the missus.

APIDavid 13 April 2003 10:51 PM

I live close to Banbury and there's heaps of Subaru of all types all around the place with just the word PRODRIVE on the number plates below the reg..

Never race 'em you just never know what they got!! Even when i had 380 hp in my Skyline.

David

Leslie 15 April 2003 11:54 AM

Lol @ Marky-San

Dont see the point in being unfriendly, we are all Scooby lovers and that should be good enough to get along with one another. I did see one guy at the Shell station near South Brent and he could not even bear to look me in the eye let alone acknowledge another Scooby owner. His young lady gave ne a nice smile though.

Nothing wrong with a bit of a cruise in company either. All part of the fun I say.

Les ;)

GaryCat 15 April 2003 12:19 PM

Make sure you have a copy of Fleetwood Mac's The Chain cued up to the old GP theme tune bit, and then turn the volume up to 11.

G.

MJW 15 April 2003 12:24 PM

Heh, my volume knob goes up to 30 !! :D

brett555 15 April 2003 12:42 PM

lol @ johnb ... bet that is quite funny. Whats your car like ? whats the spec etc... ? ... must piss some new sti owners off.

brett

STi-Frenchie 15 April 2003 01:25 PM

Yep, I'm with Leslie - if they are at all friendly, a cruise is well worth it - brings a smile to everyone's face. Summer's almost here so a whole lotta fun's gonna be had cruising around with the flat four sound.

Scooby cruise anyone?http://www.alwyngreer.com/smile/driving.gifhttp://www.alwyngreer.com/smile/driving.gifhttp://www.alwyngreer.com/smile/driving.gifhttp://www.alwyngreer.com/smile/driving.gifhttp://www.alwyngreer.com/smile/driving.gifhttp://www.alwyngreer.com/smile/driving.gifhttp://www.alwyngreer.com/smile/driving.gifhttp://www.alwyngreer.com/smile/driving.gifhttp://www.alwyngreer.com/smile/driving.gifhttp://www.alwyngreer.com/smile/driving.gif

lol @ johnb ... bet that is quite funny. Whats your car like
Ha ha ha, that's like asking the yanks for blueprints of their secret planes :D John will probably say its 'ample' which loosely translated means fooking quick :D (full decat, front mount, meaty turbo, Cray supercomputer ECU and mapped to perfection)

brett555 15 April 2003 06:36 PM

lol @ saxo ....... he's that secretive then . I may have to visit him when i come upto scotland to get my impreza. :)

brett

LG John 15 April 2003 06:44 PM

Not so much secrative.....just very modest about its abilities :D

Also, it would probably take hours to list all the mods ;)

john banks 15 April 2003 06:48 PM

TD05/06 hybrid at 26 PSI with supporting mods would summarise it well.

LG John 15 April 2003 07:00 PM

John what gearbox have you got? I remember you finally mashed your last one and was wondering what you replaced it with?
