It is possible, but you need a specific scanner that supports this through it's own software or is directly attached to a network. The HP all-in-one printer, scanner & copier allow this as do the Mustek scanners using their own LANshare software.

You can't do this using XP and any USB scanner.

Hi All

We have a network at home with two PCs, i want to be able to use the scanner witch is conected to my boyfriends computer.
We are both using XP Home, and he already uses the printer connected to my PC.

Can i use the scanner connected to his computer not mine?

Thanks in advance

Yes you can. Unplug from his machine and then plug it into yours ;)

Or do what my missus does. Comes into my office and says "Can you scan this for me ?", I say "Yes, for the price of a mug of tea" (I'm cheap), so I do it and send results to her machine via the network.

Seriously, generally speaking, you cannot share a scanner.

You can buy a cracking scanner for under £100 nowadays, have a look at some of the Canon scanners, tiny little things, great results.

Cheers

Ian
