Who has one then? Most of the big guys seem to have the Motec or Link. Is it worth considering the Gems though?

(Nice short question! lol) :D

Andy.F 09 April 2003 03:36 PM

Yes (nice short answer)

Tone Loc 09 April 2003 03:45 PM

Have a word with Steve Simpson at Town End or Pete at Prosport (aka Subaru Manchester).

I'd give yes as a short answer too....a guy at work has one. Anti Lag sounds very nice :D .

Tony.

any ecu is only as good as the person mapping it.

You can have the best spec ecu in the world but if the mapper is not up to speed on your car and its mods what may appear an inferior ecu with a very good\experienced mapper may have better/safer results.

i am not implying that anyone mentioned is inferior or x is better than y, but its more important to find a good mapper than compare specs of ecu imo.

Here endith the sermon :)

but after 4 years of scoob ownership there is only person i would get to map one.

I'm pleased with mine - esp the antilag which at certain revs just gives one HUGE bang rather than crackles - would scare the carp out of the idiot sitting on your tail if used (obviously would be very childish to do this ! :D)

Cheers guys.

I know the ecu is only as good as the mapper and most people say Bob Rawle. I thought he only does Link though?

Anti lag - :D :D :D

What other ecus have anti lag? Probably motec! Why dont they all have them?

ptholt 10 April 2003 10:29 AM

Bob does link, motec and ecutek (3 i believe).

hypoluxa 10 April 2003 06:06 PM

ptholt, how many different mappers have you tried?

NITO 10 April 2003 06:12 PM

I have (had) GEMS on mine, Steve did an excellent job and the car ran beautifully after its final map.

I did a lot of research before fitting mine and the GEMS did pretty much everything I wanted and the grin inducing Anti-Lag was a bonus!

There are lots of guys out there running them. I chose to run mine with an EVC and was very happy with the setup.

2 mappers and two different ecu's.

I'm after gems aswell, but this antilag bussines, doesn't it involve a small explosion before the turbo, or something like that? is it not going to shorten the turbo's life???

Sorry to add to your thread m8...;)

nom 11 April 2003 01:28 PM

It's a toy, rather than something useful. For most of us, anyway :) as it does serve a very good purpose, just not very often! They're illegal for road use too, although I'd like to tout their use as a safety feature on motorways :D
And over time, yes, they'd knacker the turbo... but I can't realistically see it being used very often unless you're a track-day nut, and then there's lots of other costs anyway which would probably eclipse the cost of the occassional new turbo! Or just pave the way for a new Garrett (which I believe is quite happy with AL:))

Nick200 11 April 2003 05:06 PM

Thats my point m8, as I have the td04 the pull is from very low anyway so just having gems with my setup (full decat, K+N ,sti i/c Inc pipes) I should see 275bhp quite happily. Or not????
I dont se the point in anti lag but I do like gems.
Problem is I dont have that much chice with an my97 do I??

M0NEY 12 April 2003 10:52 AM

No probs Nice, the more questions the more i learn to :D

So nom, there is no real point in the anti lag then unless your a track day nut?
