Looking to set up a home network and need a big bit of cable to go right downstairs into another room, is this the right sort of cable?
Snagless RJ45 - CAT5 network cable 30M PINK Mfr Code A3L791B30M-PNKS Quicklinx 157VWS dabspoints 16 ex VAT £14.00 inc VAT £16.45 available now 16 avail 1-3 days 3 |
It is the right SORT of cable, but if you are connecting two machines directly you need a crossover cable rather than a straight RJ45 to RJ45. Sounds complicated but it isn't really. All it means is that the transmit and reciever pairs in the cable are crossed over, so that the TX of one pc goes to the RX of the other pc and Vice Versa.

Pink?

i have a bit of cat5 cable which i have had given to me and a 4 port hub so together they should work yes? :D
And they only have it in pink! |
CAT-5 comes in allsorts of colours, Pink included. Snagless means the RJ-45 ends have an extra bit of plastic that allows them to be draged through a bundle of other cables in a patch cabinet.

Ah that funny rubber shield thingy

IMHO, pink can never be 'the right sort of network cable' ;)
