Well you can't use just any keyword, if the parser is expecting more parameters for a certain keyword you'll just get a flashing '?'. RUN USR <num> is how you execute machine code routines, so starting the ROM at location 0 restarts the machine.

Just editing my bad code :)

anyone else remember any useless code from bygone days???

BB:)

MattW 31 March 2003 05:17 PM

Forgotten most of it now.....but why did you get taught PASCAL in school. Does anyone use it commercially?

SiCotty 31 March 2003 05:26 PM

I though Delphi was based upon PASCAL

Si

Mr.Cookie 31 March 2003 05:26 PM

10 input "what is your name" a$
20 if a$="bob" goto 40
30 got 10
40 print "hi BOB how are ya!!!!"

and to think i never got a job in it  :D

MattW 31 March 2003 05:31 PM

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! Sin of all sins the GOTO statement :D

Si - Don't know Delphi, can't understand why they don't teach c though.

camk 31 March 2003 05:58 PM

altered go to in COBOL, how mental were they, code that changes the route of the code...aaarrrrrgggghhhh

STi-Frenchie 31 March 2003 06:26 PM

Mr Cookie - not surprised you didn't get a job programming - syntax error line 30 :):):):)

what would scooby do 31 March 2003 06:28 PM

I used to get kicked out of shops by doing

10 cls
20 print "xxxx is sh1te" (where xxx is name of shop)
30 goto 20

my programming has nver been as sophisticated since.. LOL :D

jbryant 31 March 2003 06:40 PM

POKE 53280,x
POKE 53281,y

Changes the foreground (x) and background (y) colour of your screen on a C64.

Yikes how did I remember that!!!!!:eek::eek::eek:

Joolz

Mr.Cookie 31 March 2003 06:51 PM

hey STi-Frenchie it's microsoft code ;) :D

Neil Smalley 31 March 2003 07:03 PM

Pop quiz, What did rnd usr(0) do on a spectrum?

Easy one :D

stevencotton 31 March 2003 07:08 PM

Pascal was taught because one of the things it teaches you to do is design your program before you start coding.

DemonDave 31 March 2003 07:27 PM

and nobody has come back with peek !!!!

ChristianR 31 March 2003 07:32 PM

never had a spectrum, I had a C64!

ChrisB 31 March 2003 07:49 PM

My TI99/4A had VCHARs and stuff.

Them were the days! :D

I got taught Pascal at Collge & Uni on the basis that it was a good structured language to encourage good programming.

AndyC_772 31 March 2003 07:50 PM

USR(0) caused the Spectrum to reboot.

Hanslow 31 March 2003 07:57 PM

Totally sad as my missus tells me, but, 6031769 is the level skip code for Manic Miner on the Speccy. You then hold down 6 and make binary patterns with the other number keys to select the level.....

If only I could remember half my passwords as well :)

Oi! Who has nicked my coat! :D

stevencotton 31 March 2003 08:17 PM

RANDOMIZE USR 0 in fact :)

Sheepsplitter 31 March 2003 09:00 PM

beemerboy: Blimey, I remember that, it was for setting the screen and border colour.

Personally my fave is:-

21 00 00
C9

Which is Z80 for
LD HL,0000
RET

I know it's sad, but I used to have to program real time systems in machine code and I can remember most of the op-codes even now.

rik1471 31 March 2003 09:15 PM

This forum has just sunk to new levels of geekiness ;)

PiNkEyE69 31 March 2003 09:57 PM

I used to have the old Spectrum Multiface 3 which allows you to POKE :D

I remeber deleted an old school teachers work by mistake on the BBC and with a mate replace it with
10 print "i love s*x"
20 goto 10
run

:D

BoxerFlat4 31 March 2003 10:04 PM

Well, I still remember some of the Z80 opcodes I used to hand assemble on my old Spectrum ....

201 = RET etc etc...

:D

Sheepsplitter 01 April 2003 05:42 AM

BoxerFlat4: Ha, real men code in hex. LOL.

GaryK 01 April 2003 08:25 AM

BB,
<sad muppet mode>
Even sadder if memory serves me right 36879 was used on the vic20 to set either the foreround or background colour? Am I right, do i get I prize, do I, do I??? </sad muppet mode>

Good old zx81 basic you couldnt beat it back in the day!

Gary

beemerboy 01 April 2003 09:47 AM

gark K... go top of the class mate

you are right indeedy

poke 38679,8 sets the border to black, and the screen to black!!

LOL

what about this one...
10 print chr$(141)"hello"
20 print chr$(141)"hello"

i'll give you a clue....
no i wont...
ok the clue is ... a typical 1984 school PC...

BB:)

BoxerFlat4 01 April 2003 10:15 AM

BBC Micro ?

beemerboy 01 April 2003 10:23 AM

check out the big brain on brad!!! well done boxer..

god it was great at school, no money issues, no responsibilty (except doing 500 lines before 9.30am)
i wish i knuckled down and didn't pish about so much now!!!

BB:)

stevencotton 01 April 2003 10:40 AM

On the BBC you could use '?' instead of print, the C64 also had BASIC shortcuts, that was pretty cool.

mark_h 01 April 2003 10:53 AM

Delphi is basically Pascal on steroids, and we use Delphi here.
