Just thought you might like to see some pix of the brake upgrade i've had done to my P1. I was told at my last service that the front pads and discs would need changing in 4,000 miles so thought that i'd take the chance to hupgrade them whilst I was doing it! Here are some "before" pics of the original brakes on my car:

Posted on here and AJF (Adrian) on here put me in touch with a guy called Stuart who made up a kit ofr his P1. I contacted Stuart and he turned out not only to be a top bloke but also a brake GURU:D

This weekend he has fitted the following kit to my car:

http://upload.turbosport.co.uk/getpi...1758510860.jpg

This consists of the following:
2 Wilwood forged superlite 4pot calipers,
2 330mm x 25.4mm AP discs, 48vane, 4 groove and radius drilled faces (RoadSport spec')
Ferodo DS2500 pads (Front and Rear)
Goodridge Fr & Rr hoses, s/s fittings & line locators.
All aluminium Bells, brackets and spacers hard anodised
Dot 5.1 Brake fluid

And here's some pics during fitting and on the car:

Any comments welcome I would like to thank AJF (Adrian) for putting me in touch with Stuart and a BIG thanks to Stuart for getting the kit done quicker than expected! The brakes are still bedding in but already feel loads better than the original setup:D

IIRC don't the willwood brakes have the dust seals missing from around the pistons so they don't have a lot of protection from the elements water salt etc.

This is what put me off buying a set of Willwoods b4

Would be good to know if they have changed them?

As far as I know only Midilite have dust seals from the Wilwood range.
Wilwood's std anodising isn't very good, corrosion in the piston bores along with road debris does seize them. The std stainless steel pistons are V.good. Keiths calipers are hard anodised which is very corrosion resistant. As for road debris itself, my road car with race AP 4pot's lasted 9 years before seizing. It seems that dust from some race pads (PFC & DS3000) is the worst enemy.

Thanks Stuart!:D

Keith Your new brakes look the biz! I have spoken to Stuart about him putting this system on my P1 so would be very interested to hear your views in the next few days on how these brakes perform compared to the std setup!

essexscooby 31 March 2003 11:35 PM

Timmo

Steve Fort 01 April 2003 01:36 PM

They look good Keith, fill them wheels up nicely!:)

IMO you really do need upgraded brakes on a P1, the originals are just dangerous, now you can scare the 5hit out of your passengers when braking late into bends etc :D

Steve:)

essexscooby 01 April 2003 07:30 PM

Thanks Steve!
If you look again at the top pic of the "original" setup you can see a crack around the 7 o'clock mark. Turns out this crack is through to the vane! So needles to say this was scrap (and not 4k miles left like the dealer said:D
These brakes just get better and better cant stop grinning:D

are they dusty? as in is there alot of brake dust produced when braking.

essexscooby 06 April 2003 08:12 AM

P1_Tud
So far i've not noticed an increase in dust really mate. I expected there to be more while i'm bedding them in but cant see it being a problem like on some other pads. Of course the wheels being this colour helps a LOT!:D
