A friend asked me to set up her Internet connection on her new laptop. Easy, I thought.
The problem is, I've just found out that it's an ISDN connection (which has just been installed), and also Windows ME. I'm fairly familiar with Dial-up newtorking and computers generally, but I've never used WinME or installed ISDN before. So now I'm panicking a bit. I've no idea where to begin when it comes to ISDN. Any ideas on where to start or problems to look out for? |
I guess what I'm really asking is whether it is similar to a standard dial-up with a modem and phone line?

Assuming the Laptop has a ISDN card in it then the set-up is the same as for a modem.

JW - Thanks for the reply. I had visions of a 20 min job turning into half a day of faffing around. I feel a lot happier now.

With home highway ISDN tho you can just use the usb cable supplied and the internal modem in the box.The BT engineer supplies the driver disc.
Failing the above you will need an ISDN PCMCIA card or usb device to sort out a connection. Beastie :D |
