Puff The Magic Wagon! 25 October 1999 04:27 PM

I was talking to a dealer on Saturday and he said that the new shape Impreza which everyone thinks is coming out October 2000, will not be coming out till October 2001. He said that I.M are aware of this. Has anyone else heard this or is he getting his wires crossed ?????

Now i hope thats not true as i'm banking on the new shape for January 2001...

I was going to buy a P1 but have held off on the hope of the new one having some nice new stuff like sequential gearbox, which is one of the rumours...

Has anybody else heard any rumours... in previous threads it was suggested that the new Impreza would be launched at the Tokyo Motor show... though no one seems to be saying they have seen it....

If IM are aware of a 2001 delivery.. has anybody any more info....

If its bad i'll be off to order my P1 pdq !!!

I personally think Oct 2001 is more likely because otherwise it was a bit daft for Prodrive/IM/FHI to go to all the trouble of producing the P1 for a shape/model that would change only a few months after the first batch of P1s are produced.

I think the date u have might be the launch date in Europe, which is usually several months behind the lauch in it's domestic market. This apply to most Japanese makes, not just Subaru.
The drawing in Autosport some time ago of the new Impreza is rumoured to be available only in Europe, any more info on this?

Jason L 27 October 1999 10:06 PM

Further to the earlier replies on here, I was told today that the new Impreza will be launched in Japan around the early fall of 2000 and then will arive in UK around November/December.

I belive this info is quite reliable so somebody is telling porky pies somewhere !

itworldwide 28 October 1999 03:44 PM

The car will be with the UK Dealer Network in the Autumn of 2001.

This is from a very reliable source from International Motors.

Cheers

The grey importers will have a field day then.

The new shape Impreza is coming out this week in Japan, They stoped producing the current Impreza last week.
I have a friend who works in Subaru Israel and they are ordering the first shipment of the new shape Impreza this week and it is due in December 2000.
the wrx version is deu in Decmber 2001.

Andy Tang 13 March 2000 12:18 AM

Spoke to a dealer last week. He said that the new shape would be revealed at the British Motor Show this year, and will be available soon after that!

Five door will only be available in 215bhp format, while the four door will be available in both 215bhp and 280bhp formats.

He suggested that as Subaru UK/Prodrive have gone to the effort of producing ECU to cope with 280bhp with normal unleaded fuel, that it will be probably be used again!!!

He suggested that I wait until the end of the year if I want one! I have my name down for one now!!! (280bhp - hopefully!!)

The US i-club site has a good analysis of the pics Lovejoy is talking about.

JohnS 13 March 2000 07:23 AM

Here's a sketch of what it is supposed to look like...

All the images to date can be found on Steve Breen's website:

DaveU 13 March 2000 09:44 AM

hey cool a Max Power Toyota Corolla!!!

Jason L 13 March 2000 10:32 AM

mmmm i like it... shame no bonnet vents and the rear spoilers a bit small (maybe thats why Dave doesn't like it ha ha )

Looks to have grown up a bit though...

Are theses the so called flared arches or will the WRX get even bigger ones.. now that would be interesting to see !!!

Jason

dsmith 13 March 2000 10:42 AM

Hmmmm

Lovejoy's picture has alloys much more like the MY99 Alloys than the MY2000 ??? Is this a backward step or an old picture . Somebody presumably has the answers.

The 5 Door does look horribly like a Corrolla and the back of the 4 door too much like an VW bora/Seat Toledo or whatever there badging it as now...

RobMac 13 March 2000 10:55 AM

Hi guys,

My information is :-

Car launched at NEC Motor Show, Birmingham 2000; goes on sale in the UK at the end of the year.

From a VERY reliable source http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

The car should also be shown in some form at the Tokyo Motor Show soon.

Floorpan is supposedly a Legacy variant which means the car will be slighly bigger than the current model, although not as big as the Legacy.

BTW, If the new car is available soon, wouldn't Prodrive already have a couple to prepare for the 2001 WRC version?? I think so...

Rob.

Ian Cook 13 March 2000 11:14 AM

Yes and also there have been rumours abound that Prodrive will be using the new shape car in March or April, depending on how competitive the old car is in the early part of the year, this is all from gossip and speculation from late last year.

Pete Croney 13 March 2000 11:40 AM

Prodrive will be using the new car in Portugal, but it will not be the new shape (confused?).

This year, they will use the current shell, but the "new" car has had 80% of the mechanical parts revised.

Expect some incredible results, if testing is anything to go by.

Jason L 13 March 2000 11:54 AM

Further to what Pete just said i had heard the rumour/information that there will be yet another new car in around July time for the WRC team...

This one will feature the new bodyshell. As the Japanese like to buy cars that are seen on the WRC stage, they are unlikely to buy the new car if the old shape is still being used on the world rally scene. Thus there is a belief that once the new shape has been introduced at the Tokyo motorshow, the WRC car will then gain the new shell to promote sales.

Hope that makes some sense

Jason

Lovejoy 13 March 2000 12:45 PM

Well, hot off the web as it is. Here is a link to the supposed new Impreza, but I hope not :

jasontaylor 13 March 2000 02:30 PM

Shark might have a better idea. Come on Shark what's the unoffical line from IM.

Mark Pitchford 13 March 2000 03:38 PM

Andy,

Would the 280bhp version just be the P1?

Mark

HUNTY 13 March 2000 06:06 PM

Much confusion http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif

I have beed told that the 'all new' Impreza will be shown at the NEC in October, with deliveries starting late Dec as a 2001 model.
This will be a 220bhp model turbo with a 280bhp wrx following 1 year later.

This years Prodrive special is the P1 and it is promised to be the first of a line of specials;

2000- P1
2001- P2= Legacy B4 Twin turbo
2002- P3? possibly the new WRX?????

If the new Impreza carries all the right qualities from the old car, which is what makes us all such fans of it, and puts right all the crappy bits, interior, brakes etc. The demand will be huge.

I can see it being a mini Skyline for half the price including 6 speed box, brembo brakes and a quality interior.

johnfelstead 13 March 2000 07:29 PM

i hope those piccies are fake, i absolutely hate the focus style arches, and the car just looks fat. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif
