Hi peeps.
As I have had a number of requests from people wanting to see my new pods and gauges, I have managed to get some piccis done for you to look at. Here's a shot of the complete interior.... http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/stef/images/Interior.jpg For more piccis, including some really cool night-time jobbies, click |
Stef...I was just going to compliment you on the pics....so here goes....well done...great shots...
...then I was going to ask about the dials on centre console.....but I'm not going to ask that.....cos I've just seen the pics in detail on the site....so basically I answered my own question...and now I'm mumbling....getting coat http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif...ta ta |
Stef,
Very, very nice. Autometer gauges rock !! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif How do you find the A/F gauge ? Annoying or useful ? Cool trick with the Autometer gauges with the backlight is that the bulbs come with coloured socks to place over them. I see you have used the green to match your standard dials. However, I wanted blue, so you can actually paint the bulbs with glass paint in several layers to get a nice blue glow, if that is your bag http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif Matches my stereo now. Anyway, nice http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif Cheers Ian |
what was the cost of the centre pod?

Great Pics.......I'm not jealous http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Stef: I hope you don't mind me passing on this info. Let me know if you do and I'll edit accordingly http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
Tom, (Rum), I think Stef got the gauges from Real Steel in Cowley. The pod came from his local Subaru dealer for about 60 quid. Fitting was done by Tyres Northampton, I think. I may be able to use them as my folks live in Rugby, which isn't far from Northampton. I'm in Leeds too and want to get some fitted. KT Green said that Prodrive no longer have gauges as an option, but didn't know why. Dunno who would fit em - any ideas? Stef: these look *superb*! Could you post some prices/availability/model numbers if you don't mind? Did you mount the dials and just have Northampton Tyres hook em up, or did they do everything? BT PhonenetUK, after an entertaining hunt for the right Cowley, lists Real Steel as: REAL STEEL V8 ENGINE PARTS, Unit 9 Packet Boat La, Uxbridge, Middx. (01895) 440505. Perhaps someone would like to suggest that they participate in this new ScoobyShop thing? Want some! Now! |
Carrying on sticking my oar in...
So, are they electrical or mechanical? Being ignorant, I have no clue, but I guess that a sender is needed for temp/pressure, so they're electrical? |
Very Imprezive! Did you modify the forrester binacle and where did you get the gauges ?
Also like asked earlier is the air /fuel ratio helpful? cheers Rob |
Guages....smages
Stef, why bother. It will still go BANG!!!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif Just for your info.... I had a accurate boost gauge, oil pressure guage and AFR meter in my first Escort Cossie........and that still blew up!!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif It's hard to keep your eye on the road, other users, the ******* your racing, the rear view mirror (coppers) & YOUR GAUGES AT 150 MPH!!!!! Oh well, if it makes ya happy. Shaun. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif [This message has been edited by Shaun (edited 12 October 2000).] [This message has been edited by Shaun (edited 12 October 2000).] |
chiark,
I've spoken to R N Golden - the dealers I use most of the time and they are looking into it for me....I will keep you informed *S*...do you think we could get a deal on 2 being fitted at the same time??? If so I'll drive down to Northampton with ya!! |
Sounds good Tom. We ought to meet up for that pint sometime...
Nick. |
Cheers guys..... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
As Chiark says, the gauges are all from Reel Steel, who are sole distributors for Auto-Meter in the UK. UIf you look at the link above, they also do black bezel/white face (Phantom), silver bezel/black face (Sport-comp) and black or chrome bezel/black face (Performance) as well as the Ultra-Lite ones I have. My boost and oil pressure are mechanical, the oil temp electrical (hence the half-sweep). The pod is standard Subaru and is actually too small for these gauges, as I had to make up the fascia between the gauges in sections, not that you'd know. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif And how can anything as cool as that a/f ratio gauge possibly be annoying? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif Seriously, it does flash a lot and is quite distracting 'cos it's so new, but well worth it IMHO. Total cost of all gauges and pods is less than £300!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif The pod housing the a/f gauge is actually from PE, and costs £45. Superb fit though. TYRES NORTHAMTON can supply and fit any of the gauges, although they didn't make the fascia. Sticky Pete did that for me, but perhaps we could use mine as a template and make some up for other people? Anyway, thanks again for all the nice comments. Shaun. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif Stef. [This message has been edited by Stef (edited 12 October 2000).] |
the gauges look great stef
what size are they ? 2 1/16 ? is that the standard 52 mm or are they smaller ? sam |
|
Stef
Too cool for school... v.v.nice! Rich http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif BTW - I notice your BRIGHT and Headlamp washer buttons don't light up at night. Is this normal? (Mine don't either - but I thought they were faulty http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif ) |
With a control as important as the Bright button you should know instinctively where it is so you can reach it in an emergency without even having to look for it. Shame on you RichS http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif
|
Hi Mike
Can you supply and fit these then? Nottingham is closer than Northampton, and these seem very good value compared to the HKS stuff. Cheers! |
Stef,
Superb pix! Next time we'll try without the Carbon monoxide! Josh |
WOW! The gauges look COOL!
Are they easy to fit or can this only be done by a dealer and if yes at what price? I want such a gauge too!!! ric |
Hi Sam.
Yes I agree with you, the L/L is an ugly looking thing. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif I have my knock link installed in my dash pod. Removed from the box, drilled from underneath and LED's protrude through into the gauge binnacle. Very nice but a long fiddly job. I am installing the Autometer AFR gauge in my car, (If I ever get around to it) http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif Iw ill run them sort of side by side and see if they are generally telling the same story. We have sold Autometer gauges since we started, (Phantom range mainly as they are so similar in design to OEM late model white gauges)I personally think they are the best gauges around and always do well in tests. I have the tech. info for the AFR gauges if anybody wants more info drop me a mail. Mike. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif If you have a centre gauge pod, Autometer even do their own 'angle rings' to point the gauges towards the driver and a if you have a spare slot, they even do a nice clock to match your gauges. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif |
how did you wire the A/F meter ? it is so much better looking than my lambda link http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif. which i have hidden along with the knock link ( which is also ugly looking box ) in the centre console which you have done without.
does anyone one if i could use this instead of my lambda link ? at the end of the day it is just another A/F meter right ?!!!! sam |
Mike,
Can you email some more info to me on the dials etc - I'm in Leeds along with Chiark and would be interested. I look forward to hearing from you. Cheers Rum (Tom) |
harryh
you're absolutely right - thanks for setting me straight http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif Rich http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif |
We can supply, info should be up on our web site imminently, (probably Monday now).
Fitting, not (currently) geared up for fitting but may be able to sort it out for you, give me a ring on Monday? You can see all of the Autometer gauges at this link |
mike
when you say dash pod do you mean the three gauge pod like the on stef has ? do you have any pics of that ? i really would like to do something with it but i am running out of ideas .. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif sam |
Sam.
No, not the centre one, I wanted my Knock Link where I could glance at it or it could catch my eye without any head twisting Etc. I took my dashboard to pieces, drilled and mounted it underneath with the LED's protruding through just below the Rev Counter, behind the perspex cover. (Also done it on a few customers' cars since, looks almost like factory fit). I am currently having a centre pod made which will accommodate 3 x 52mm gauges and 'should' also have room to mount Lambda Link and/or Knock Link. (de-boxed). Mike. |
My Speedo needle shakes a bit and ive got a noisy rear wheel bearing, beat that then!
http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif NeilR p.s. oh ok, nice guages! |
Mike
How much will the center pod for 52mm guages cost. Will it come covered to match the interior or do I have to get B-Trim to do this for me. Oh yeah, thanks TDi for breaking my original 190gbp + vat unit in order to fix the guage you fitted incorrectly. |
Hi Ian,
Not fixed a price yet, as the pod is still being fine tuned for both practical and aesthetic reasons. (Target price is circa £60.00). It will be as close as possible to OEM, in texture/colour, there will also be a Carbon Fibre Version. I presume you meant that TDI broke your gauge after 'they' had fitted it incorrectly? Regards Mike. [This message has been edited by Mike Tuckwood (edited 17 October 2000).] |
Hi again Mike!
Just looked at the Scoobymania site and no mention of the Autometer stuff. Did we cross threads when you said you could supply the stuff? I was refering to the Autometer ones like Stef has above. Sorry to be a pain... Nick. |
