This is a big problem for me. The next door neighbour is a prick, he wont disiplin his children. The older one is 7 and thinks hes Beckham, he is never without his football. They moved in a couple of years ago and I have had this bother since then.

I used to have an 82 VW Golf GTI lovely car had been restored and cost me a fortune. I was out cleaning it and the brat kicks his ball of it. Spoke to the father as he was lifting the ball over my fence about respecting other peoples property etc. He just smiled at me. I went into one and he avoided me for months. The holigan wasnt worried.

Every time I see the brat out I remind him to keep his ball away from my car. He kicks it off the windows on the house too.

So 3 weeks ago I come home and find a football shaped mark on the car, I tell him about it and then the next week another on only it has scored the paint. I have a word with the mother and ask her to tell the kid to not play with his ball near my car, as I cant say for sure it was him or not. Her attitude was its just one of those things, put the car in the garage, her son should not have to go to the park to play ball he should be allowed to do what he wants.

What can I do as talking to them does not seem to work?
Could the council help?

Next time you see the kid with his ball, pick it up and kick it as hard as you can away. the ball that is, not the kid ;)

druddle 26 March 2003 01:05 PM

Either that or run it over, or pop it.

CCTV camera on the outside of the building and the invoice for a repair everytime the ball damages the car. Use the small claims court if they refuse to pay, offering the video as evidence of who caused the damage.

SJ_Skyline 26 March 2003 01:09 PM

break both the kids legs - that way they won't be able to kick a ball! ;)

krankyd 26 March 2003 01:09 PM

I know - if you see the kid kicking the ball and it hits your car, get a football and blast it into his face.

He won't be playing football near your car ever again...

scoob_babe 26 March 2003 01:10 PM

I see you've been taking lessons from Astraboy Rich!

DrEvil 26 March 2003 01:11 PM

Becareful, I've been in this situation before..

My best advice, is speak to the Police, and ask them to send the community officer round to talk to you and the parties involved.

Remember, you could get done for criminal damage if you burst the ball... As they are probably the sort that would follow it up if you damage their property!

I loathe people with this attitude - but its common these days, nobody respects other peoples property.

PS. CCTV idea sounds good.

It's a long shot I know but you could try turning the situation the other way around. I mean, the kid thinks it's funny and he is not getting any punishment for it. Why not offer to have a kick around with him in the street and as he gets to know you get him interested in the car, perhaps while you are out washing it so he can see how much effort you spend on it.....he may appreciate it a little bit more 'cos you dont just want hime to think you are out to spoil his fun.

I think it's best to try and get on with neighbours if possible...if all else fails then pop the ball....

DazW 26 March 2003 01:18 PM

Buy a big bloody dog that likes chasing kids & balls :D

T2000PPP 26 March 2003 01:19 PM

Take the kids ball and start booting it up his old mans car and see how he likes it.

Dream Weaver 26 March 2003 01:20 PM

Run him over, or hit his dad :D

XT 26 March 2003 01:20 PM

Tell him that if you see him play ball within a distance of 30 meters from your car, you'll break both his legs and slap him silly.

Worked for me........;)

Dunc20 26 March 2003 01:21 PM

Here's an elaborate plan:

In these situations you have to asses which subject is the problem;

1) The Parents
2) The Kid
3) The Ball

and which one to get rid of would stop the problem. Now on the grounds that you'd get done for GBH if you harmed the kid thats ruled out...and seeing that the parents couldnt give a sh1t that rules them out. Therefore leaving you with ball!......seriously, next time it happens go and get the ball and POP it and repeat this process until the message is clear!

Dunc.

forgetting to shave for 1-2 weeks also helps :D

Could the council help?
In my experience no, not instantly anyway.
Had a problem with neighbours before and the council told me to make a dairy of what was going on from day to day, they also warned me that making an official complaint would mean I have to declare that I did so and the reason why if I ever sell up.
I felt I had only 2 options, 1. Get someone out of the local newspaper that deals with these people for a price or 2. Move.
Not wanting to go to prison I moved.

The wee lad has no respect for property, his father lets him do what he likes to their car as it is a company vehicle.

After they moved round he helped me wash the car and then told me I had to pay him!!

I think I'll get the Police to call round if it happens again.

Thanks.

Beemer_Deano 26 March 2003 02:27 PM

Bah - trust me to try and be funny in a double post :)

A mate of mine had exactly the same problem - a couple of weeks in the body shop fixed it :D

No you really should have said, "The kid that is, not the ball" ;) :D

prodrive1 26 March 2003 02:48 PM

CALL ME AND I'LL SEND PEOPLE ROUND TO KICK THE S*IT OUT OF THE FATER AND THE KID WILL STOP THEN.

barrybudden 26 March 2003 03:28 PM

I called the Cops and they are going to send someone round to talk to us about it. Hopefully I can get it sorted out.

DrEvil 26 March 2003 04:09 PM

Hope it goes well Barry.

Tino 26 March 2003 04:32 PM

Buy the little cnut a skateboard!

skiddus_markus 26 March 2003 05:05 PM

Put superglue on the ball.

CTRnutter 26 March 2003 05:43 PM

run the little sh1t over and explain to the mother that you shouldn't have to drive on the road each time you get in your car and just push it aside as just one of those things

Seems a strange thing for them to suggest, still I suppose it took your mind off the problem. What do you produce - milk? ;)

S.B. 26 March 2003 06:02 PM

Get a motor with pimp tints and get some of your homies tool up with some nines and do a drive-by on them.

Brendan Hughes 26 March 2003 06:12 PM

I still liked the solution someone mentioned to Tiggs' camp problem (missus!). Ask the kid if he likes LSD. Or, take lots of photos of him playing football. See how fast the neighbours' house goes up for sale.
