Whats all this about 4000rpm give it the gun man ihave with mine it will be a better car if you do.

Keep it below 4000rpm for the 1st 1K miles, then build up gradually after it's 1K service. STi 8 with PPP but I have been out in one today with full decat and ecutek remap, which had noticeable amount of more grunt than the PPP.

Bad advice, bordering on the irresponsible IMHO. If dealers tell you to run it in, then I'd run it in. The ECU does log certain data...

Besides, use the 1000 miles to get used to the car, then start opening it up a bit :D

It gives you time to get the tyres scrubbed in for when you can give it a blast :-)

You lot need a lesson or two about running a car in.
If you keep an STI even with a PPP fitted below 4000 revs you will do it more harm than good. The car is labouring for Gods sake.
Keep it under 5000K revs that would be my advice. DONT labour the engine and dont over rev it for about 250 miles.
Then increase the load for the next 300 miles.
The last 300 miles or so I would let it rip.
It hasnt done any of my cars any harm and they all go well thats all makes of cars.
What the firk is the point doing what a lot of sad tw3ts do keeping it below 4000 revs for 1000 miles have it serviced and then thrash it.

well they do have a running in oil in them which is extremely thin when hot. there is a reason why subaru say run it in below 4000 rpm. do other wise at your own risk.

Labouring the engine occurs when when you are in too higher gear trying to force the engine to pull from very low revs. Doing under 4,000 rpm is not labouring but going up a hill in 5th at 10mph with the pedal to the floor is. Even my RA (which is low geared) will do 80mph in 5th @ 4000rpm ;).

You are not only running the engine in ;), you are bedding in the clutch, brakes, tyres etc.

Stick to the schedule is my opinion unless you like garage bills and walking everywhere ;).

The running in instructions say quite clearly both not to exceed the rev limit (except in emergency) and not to labour the engine.

Sticking to this would seem wise. Or perhaps dealers are doing it just to annoy us all :rolleyes:
