And does this go up during times of conflict?
Is it an hourly rate or salary? Any chance for overtime? What happens when your shift ends and your still filling the enemy full of lead?

I'm not thinking of applying for a job but I've seen in the press a figure of about £6 per hour and if that's the case it's a p1ss poor wage for risking your life for Queen and Country.

:D

"it's a p1ss poor wage for risking your life for Queen and Country."

pay isnt related to risk- its related to your ability to generate money and the amount of ppl wanting the job/able to do the job.

soilders/firemen dont generate mauch and theres no shortage of them.

Between £45-50 per day as a Marine. Don't know anyone who does it for the money.

its appalingly badly paid for the lower ranks and even the officers get far less than they would in civilian life. Like many other public sector workers the armed forces are getting shafted on pay and on tax. They also risk death.
Another example of Britains failing society.

Think this may solve the debate http://www.army.mod.uk/servingsoldie...es_sldr_w.html

When you consider you may get your arse blown away it's not a lot, and contrary to that stated above the Army have a massive recruitment problem as do all services.

A Private with three years service on the Higher Pay Band (I doubt there are many, most on the lower) would earn £43.93 per day, divide that by the 24hrs would give him a massive £1.83 per hour.

Now can you justify £30k per year for a fire fighter who might breathe in a bit of smoke or rescue someone but at least after his shift he can go home and sleep safely. I can't.

Where's Pete Lewis when you need him LOL :D

steve G MAN 17 March 2003 07:22 PM

i wasent too far out with the pte wage lol i agree with you stu the fire fighters cant justify a pay rise to the amount there asking

pslewis 17 March 2003 07:27 PM

I'm here I'm here!!

I would pay the army £30k while they were fighting - it does my head in that the poxy firemen think they are worth that for poncing around getting their picture taken for the ladies of the blue rinse brigade, who, of course - wet their pads!! ;)

I would also pay the firemen £30k too .......... yes indeed I would ............. for WHEN they are actually doing something that deserves it. So, chemical fire, car accident, gas explosion gets £30k for while they are doing it. getting cats from trees, putting out chip fires, washing cars for charity, standing at the traffic lights with buckets of money, playing being firemen gets £20k now, thats really fair!!

OH, yes, bomb France!!

Cheers for all the replies!
So it seems the average soldier gets £30 per day. Pah! That's an insult but still people sign up.
Tiggs was spot on with his summary but it doesn't make it acceptable.

To anybody involved over there- Good luck!
