I have had a Dawes Device fitted to my MY96 WRX wagon, due to overboost problems, and therefore fitted a boost gauge in what I was told was the correct place....between the manifold and wastegate actuator. Gauge was reading 0.7 bar when I hit overboost again so obviously isn't the correct place! :(
Where is the best place to connect your boost gauge?? I was told in between the turbo and the intercooler is the best place to give accurate boost readings?? Any suggestions?? Ruth |
between the turbo and the intercooler mine is (MY96) just next to the manifold... I'll email you a pic if u like. What boost gauge is it? |
Its a TIM one....just a cheapy to give us an idea of what the boost is doing....will eventually get a decent one!
I spoke to the place I purchased it from and they said 0.7 bar was an accurate figure of how much boost would be coming out of the engine ( ...I'm not mechanically minded!) and that I must have it in the wrong place. He said to put it before the engine so that I have an idea of boost going into the engine.... Piccies would be great, thank you! :D Ruth |

or here. The gauge feed if just to the left of the manifold that then goes to the sender unit which is attached to the strut. |
ok I've updated the photo and ringed the connection in green

Dizzy,
Ta very much for the pictures. It's odd cos I have my boost gauge connected to the same place as you have yours....and yet I am still not getting an accurate reading of boost!! Ruth |
Russell,
Thanks very much for the offer of help. I only just got your message today so I couldn't call you last night! Might need a bit of your expert advise and it would be good to meet some of the Aberdeen Scooby regulars! Ruth |
0.7 bar is exactly standard boost are you sure your overboosting? are you sure u've got your dawes on correctly? (mine is connected just to the left of my green oval ;))
|
Yep....positive. I had an overboost problem before due to a cracked wastegate actuator and so I recognise overboost when it happens! Spent weeks driving round the problem!! (fixed now tho! :D )
The gauge cranks up to 0.7 bar during hard acceleration...you keep accelerating and the gauge still reads 0.7....you then hit overboost (which I understand happens at about 1.2 bar??) a couple seconds later at about 3500-4000rpm.... Dawes was fitted by Scooby professionals and from your picture the boost gauge is plumbed into the right place....maybe it's just a cr*p gauge!! Ruth |
Fuel cut happens @ about 1.1bar on mine.
Best bet will be to go to a meet an get some people to look and point at it :) That always fixes things :) |
