Just been to B&Q about this stuff. They sell mesh for about £15-20 for the size we want. However the steel mesh is not stainless and will therefore rust, but they also sell aluminium mesh. This is coated/painted gold. So I was wondering about getting this and spraying it silver?.....What do you think, good idea????

Halfords are doing some nice stainless mesh for about £20 and plastic for £18

Halfords, Ripspeed, Demon Tweeks etc all sell the ally stuff.
A good kitchen fitter, (yes, really) will be able to source stainless stuff too.

my local B+Q has the alu mesh in natural silver, and gold.

The halfords stainless one is NEW (twisted mesh) looks cool, it's not the old punched out ally one.

What's the best way to attach the mesh to the car? I was thinking of glue on the horizontal black plastic bars and may be thin fishing line as well

Seriously, I did mine using enamelled copper wire, bent into a thin "U" and fed through from the front, twisted up at the rear.
Totally invisible.
Or, if you can get to it, do what I did for the upper grille, and use small black zip ties.
Anything you use needs to be removable in case you need to replace, repair, repaint, or remove it for resale of car.

I was thinking of a rubbery kind of a glue that will release the mesh if needed to, and wouldn't fishing line be stronger, cheaper and less visible.

if your fixing it from behind, silicon sealant is great, make sure you leave it over night though.

Mine was done in situ. You do need to remove the upper grille though to get your hand behind to twist up the wire/do up the ties.
I still wouldn't use glue: you may have difficulty hiding it if you use even a little too much, and it seeps through, or fills the mesh hole.
Silicone is OK for a permanent job, but not my cup of tea....as I said, I'd like to be able to EASILY remove mine if a rock pierces the grille, or a kamikaze pheasant does the same!!:D:
Fishing line may be difficult to get tight, wire isn't, you just twist it.
Seriously, do a search for a thread titled "How do I............." which appeared either December or January. In it are pictures of my car with the grille done exactly as I've said.
Simple to do, easy to remove, but fixed firmly and hasn't moved yet!( even at speeds of twice the UK limit, on a private road!!)

Zip ties - I take it there are the same as cable ties??

The horizontal plastic bars on the car's grill, I'm assuming the mesh fastens to these and they also support it and stop it falling in over. However at the top and bottom there is no lip or bar to support it so do you find it a problem that, at these points, the mesh curls in towards the car.

Zip ties= cable ties, correct, and can be had in various lengths, thicknesses and widths from Halfords, among others. Mine came from Screwfix.:):
Mesh curling in: Not a prob, the mesh is fairly rigid anyway, and you're talking about 30mm here. Just ensure that it is fastened tightly onto top, and bottom "rails" and all will be well. :):

I downloaded it from Scoobynet a while ago, increased the size a little and printed it out. Cut out the outline, taped it on, couple of coats of spray and hey presto.

I'm going to try some black cable ties, see if they are less noticable. I also might put some mesh in the gaps below the indicators and in the grill

Hmmmmm! The grille's not so easy on that model because of the horizontal centre bar.
Might be easier to look for a new grille from the likes of Fundimental, 'cos cutting it would be about the only way!
As far as the holes below the indicators go, sounds good, but don't get it so that you have difficulty cleaning it.
