I know I'm in Portugal, so their law could be different, but what would happen in the UK in the following situation?

Car value 27 000. I put down a deposit of 3000.

I've also ordered leather seats as a dealer (not factory) option, which will be backed by manufacturer's guarantee, in my own specified colours. Cost 1400, almost certainly fitted by now. A few other options as well.

Now I might have to cancel the order :(

I can imagine that I lose my 3k deposit :(. But can they also charge me for the leather seats?

Thanks - and hoping it doesn't come to this.

I would guess that if the seats have been fitted 1400 would be the least that you would lose.

Good luck

Why a 3 grand deposit ?? £500 is usual enough over here.

No comment if you'll lose the lot or not but certain to lose some of it.

David - I was hoping you'd answer, thanks. Why did you choose your particular phrasing? Is it common to charge for options, even more than just keeping the deposit? Strikes me that BMW owners risk losing a lot then! Is a deposit normally kept, to cover for the dealer's trouble, or normally returned except to cover for certain expenses? (Like the leather?)

Wheelwright - a) it's in euros, b) that's what they asked for. And as there wasn't a problem at the time, I paid it.

Brendan

How much would you lose if you advertised the car unregistered in the national motor mag like Top Marques ? Could it be less than 3000 Euros ?

Jonathan
